Vinyl is a lot of work on keeping it looking good over the years. I always waxed mine with a special wax, but most don't keep it up and it winds up cracking over the years. Mine was a dark green vinyl.

Yeah, I know. Also, there was the problem, particularly for people who lived along the coast, of getting salt up under the vinyl, which led to rust problems.
Believe it or not, some time ago, my wife and I were going to Wal-Mart and saw a 1999-2004 Mustang that had a vinyl top. Why, we wondered, would a Mustang have a vinyl top? (It actually did look pretty bad on the car.) Then it dawned on me: Back in the '70s, adding a vinyl top was a handy way of disguising a car that had been rolled. Bet it was the same thing.
