I found the weakness of the Challenger

RE: I found the weakness of the Challenger
I love the Challenger as my daily driver.
The original failure is being repaired without updating to the 2009 parts. They said they will have most of the parts to fix it within 3 to 5 days, but are still searching for several parts. Because I am out of town, I am unable to see exactly what happened. I will be back in town on Friday to check it out. They told me over the phone that the splined part of the halfshaft actually broke (sheered off) and damaged the ABS sensors and every other part near it. I will have pics on Friday.

The good news is that the axle or halfshaft came in today and the car should be ready this afternoon. How many more times does this have to break before my car is classified as a lemon?

choodock... any chance you have a macro setting on your camera for taking close-ups? Would be interesting to see if there is a stress riser machined into the shaft where it meets that flat surface. If so hopefully it has been fixed.

RE: I found the weakness of the Challenger
I was using my camera phone and have never adjusted the settings, do not know how either.
The texture of the material on the broken shaft was weird. The outer layer looks different than the core.

More than likely case hardened by heat treating. The outer layer will be indicative of how deep it has been hardened. Can you get pics of the broken ends from a little farther away to get better focus?
