RE: Spy Photo!
I wonder why they're bothering with the camouflaging. It's not like we have no idea what the car is supposed to look like.
|
RE: Spy Photo!
Yes, but they are hiding the production mods for Chicago.
|
RE: Spy Photo!
Beautiful! Now hopefully this will help to eliminate fear and concerns that some still have that the Challenger won't be produced and that it could be a sedan. This photo proves that the Challenger will be a coupe (which the concept photos were enough to prove that) and now that they are putting car bras on it, now maybe people will stop worrying about any possibility that the new management might drop the model.

RE: Spy Photo!
Well, since there is a company in San Antonio that does a lot of testing for auto manufacturers (I saw both the '05 Mustang and Charger on the streets here during their test periods), I guess I'll have to get a digital camera and keep it with me. A lot of the testing (which apparently is for downtown driving) takes place right around my place of employment. Hopefully, a Challenger will show up here soon. :D

RE: Spy Photo!
Notice the qtr. window is covered. Possibly hiding the "B"pillar. IMO a "B"pillar would ruin the look of this car. I have heard people say that it is needed for strength. If that is true, how in the world are they ever going to build a convertible?

RE: Spy Photo!
A Chrysler employee posted on another site that he has seen the 2008 production Challenger and was extremely happy with the looks. As promised, it is very close to the concept car, with one exception- it has a B pillar! He could not provide a photo or other details for fear of losing his job.

RE: Spy Photo!
I thought HXC Performance showed showed it earlier on this thread. See below.

RE: Spy Photo!
Ah, they're going to ruin it with a "B" pillar. It will look just like the concept car, they said.[:'(]
|
RE: Spy Photo!
OMG. Honestly people, if the B-piller is the biggest of your worries then I would consider us very lucky. How often does a production car come out almost exactly the same as the concept? I would say that this is probably the best one out there, especially if you consider what the Charger started out like and what it turned into. On top of that, I don't think it's really gonig to change it all that much. Instead of that black mark/line there between the windows, you are going to have a little larger piller. To me, it's not going to be much different looking then the metal piece on this Challenger HERE
|
RE: Spy Photo!
You're right. It won't make that much of a difference, until you go to put all 4 windows down for some nice summer evening open-air cruzin'. Besides the loss of chrome, the open-air ride from the 50's & 60's is probably gone for good. Too bad. It gave the car character.
|
RE: Spy Photo!
Does a little window like that really make that much difference in the air flow? I'm not trying to be a smart #$$ or anything, I'm actually serious on all of this. I never experienced the 70s muscle cars, wasn't even born yet, so I don't know much about that stuff. I never really cared for the convertables, and still don't, nor am I a fan of chrome, except on the older cars. It just seems to fit then. On things like my Ram, when I had it, it had to be sport because I couldn't stand the chrome.
|
RE: Spy Photo!
I have said this before, but I am glad it has the pillar as it stiffens the chassis for better road handling since I am not a drag racer.
I am more interested in road handling. As far as open air ride goes, that is not the reason I want this car. |
RE: Spy Photo!
I agree that the "B"pillar would add strength. So, if they need the "B"pillar for strength, DON'T EVER EXPECT TO SEE A CONV. CHALLENGER!! I am officially dropping the "B"pillar topic. This is my only peeve about the Challenger. It is absolutly AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dodge should be proud.
|
RE: Spy Photo!
So, if they need the "B"pillar for strength, DON'T EVER EXPECT TO SEE A CONV. CHALLENGER!! It is still not as good as a strong roof but they do make up for it that way. That is why many times a convertible is heavier than it's sedan counterpart. |
RE: Spy Photo!
Yuck; knew there had to be someting ugly coming to it. The dreaded B-pillar. Can't they make the sedan on a similarly strengthened conv. chasis, and be gone with the ugly B-pillar (once and for all)?!
|
RE: Spy Photo!
I learned something FIRST HAND...from the Chrysler Tech Center about the B pillar. Its presence, its purpose and its appearance. I promised not to post or tell. I just wanted it known, that...I know something you don't know...

I'm going to tell my mommy that you know something I don't know. Sorry, couldn't resist.

RE: Spy Photo!
Great answer!
|
RE: Spy Photo!
everyone, trust me when i say, with the front windows rolled up you can't see the "B" piller!! this car looks VERY good!!!you all should be happy with the out come of this car. but when you see it for the first time, look at this car with an open mind and don't focus on the piller issue.
|
RE: Spy Photo!
Personally, I'd just as soon have the B pillar to give the window more support. In fact, I'd prefer the window had a frame all the way around it, a la the aircraft-style doors on the Ford Thunderbirds of the 1983-1997 era.
When I still had my '70 Challenger, the front windows became looser as the years went by, mainly because of the suction effect created whenever you roll a window up or down while the car is in motion. Eventually, the hairpin-shaped brackets (which were the only things actually holding in the front side windows) broke and believe me, it was impossible to get new ones. Finding none in junk yards, I had three different machine shops try to make new ones for me, with little success. Texas Auto Glass made a fortune off me, as the driver's side window often came off its holder on my way to work and their shop happened to be right on the route. (They actually got so good at fixing it that they could pull the door panel off, remount the window on the holder as best they could and get the panel back on in five to seven minutes -- all for $22.50.) Frankly, the B pillar issue is so unimportant that I'm shocked at the amount of time spent on it. The pillars we've seen spy shots of appear much narrower than the B pillars on my 2000 Mustang, and those certainly don't do anything to add to or detract from the appearance of the car. Also, in all the years I had the Challenger, I don't think I EVER rolled down the back windows, except possibly when cleaning them. Only three or four times were there ever people in the back seat, and they might have rolled them down. After all, part of the reason for having a two-door car is to discourage people from wanting to be hauled around in the back seat. ;) |

What are those gutter strips on the roof? The concept doesn't have them; I like that smoth roof. Do you think they'll show up on the production car? I'm way behind the eight ball on all this, but I read elsewhere that the body is not curving under (as it does on the concept). As far as I'm concerned, that's a big difference. Got the b-pilar, those roof gutters, and now straight walls... man. I sure hope they're not thinking of pricing this too high! It may not be worth any big money with those changes. They sort of gave it that present-day generic look. |
