And they wonder why?

I've been looking at prices on the 6-speed R/Ts and they range from $31,000- $38,000 MSRP depending on options. I don't need much just the 6-speed and trac-pack. The rest is just fluff. I'm doing a refuel outage in SC and they have a few dealerships here. One of them Lake Keowee Dodge just got 2 R/Ts in and 1 is black but it has all the bells and whistles. They think they are going to get $40,000 out of this thing. Are they crazy... you can get an SRT-8 for $39999 on E-bay with the 6-speed in Mo. I'm going to go look at them this week, but only to blast them for over pricing their stock... oh yeah and to look at the cars:D I could buy a nice R/T on E-Bay and buy a one way ticket to go and get it. I've been trying to talk myself into waiting until I get back to NC and getting one then. But back to the deal, these dealers are so cocky to think they will get these inflated prices. I'd go $1000 under MSRP right now! But I think they would rather just go belly up:eek:

RE: And they wonder why?

Yep, Lear, you've hit the nail on the head. Apparently, some dealerships indeed WOULD rather go belly-up than actually sell cars. In fact, I'm starting to wonder if it's not corporate policy to act that way. It's really amazing with Dodge running so many end-of-the-year ads begging people to come in and take an 08 non-Challenger off their hands that the one vehicle they actually have that sells is so hard to get and when it IS available, some dealer is trying to bilk the public.

RE: And they wonder why?

If you're willing to travel, my dealer in Fort Worth, TX took $1500 off MSRP on mine without even haggling. If you want, PM me and I'll give you the details.

Bottom line, there's NO excuse for anyone settling for MSRP anymore, much less pay the ridiculous markups (but I guess some saps are still doing it, go figure  ). There ARE deals out there to be had on these - they may be a bit harder to come by on an SRT, but if you're patient enough, you can find them. If a dealer is still trying to BS you by saying they can't (or won't) go below MSRP, WALK AWAY.

RE: And they wonder why?

I know I mentioned it before... but I"ll say it again. Met a guy with a Challenger R/T the other day who said he paid $9k over MSRP... [sm=insomnia.gif]

As long as that kind of thing is happening it kind of ruins it for the more reasonable folks who want the car... [:@]

Let's see, I am slowly bleeding to death, so I think I'll just shoot myself in the foot...that should help...
(Dealers just don't seem to get it.....)

"I don't need much just the 6-speed and trac-pack. The rest is just fluff."

This is the type of car I own. I know where there is a decent selection with these options and I paid very close to invoice.

no kiddin cause i ain't gonna pay over msrp then again that is why i probably never own one

tskatz 11-24-2008 05:20 AM

RE: And they wonder why?

I am not kiddin. I have not checked the dealers inventory since I bought mine but I will right now. When I bought mine they had about four cars with The Trak Pack as the only option.

RE: And they wonder why?

My selling dealer has silver, white, blue and black in stock with no options except Trak Pac. They have other's also with more options. They currently have 22 Challengers in stock.

tskatz, where is your dealer? That sounds alot like the dealer I dealt with. The only 2 options my car as are the 6-speed w/track pack and the 20" chrome wheels. He had a silver, black and titanium grey all optioned just like that.

With the financial problems that Chrysler and the other two Big Three are having, no one should be charged a price that is over MSRP for any vehicle....better to cost profit on one unit and sell more, than to let stock sit on the lot unsold..................

RLSH700 11-24-2008 12:54 PM

RE: And they wonder why?

It depends on your location and how well off it is. A dealership that is close to where I live has an automatic R/T for $31,740 that has a few extra options, but pretty much no mark up. Given I know its an automatic and I know we were discussing a manual, but if you look in the right places, you'll find a deal and this place rarely ever has big sales. So I guess the moral to this is that the ones who give big discounts and big sales also have big mark ups.

RE: And they wonder why?

Thanks guys for all the response. And I'm still in the looking mode... but its hard not to pull the trigger and get one. I have a few more financial transactions to make and I will be ready to go. And a short trip on a plane would be cool. Then drive that beast back for the time of my life. I will go to the dealer in SC on Fri. loaded with my E-Bay finds on paper, but I will test drive it before I make them mad;) Then try to show them that they are expecting way too much for their Challengers. So tune into the news on Friday and see if you hear of any antics in a new Challenger:D

RE: And they wonder why?

Double post sorry:) I for one would like to thank those who are waiting it out. I think our message is being heard and I can see the results on E-Bay. Prices are starting to come down as well as reserves. But there are still some nuts on there who have not got the message. I saw a Buy It Now on an SRT-8 2008 at that for $75,000.

RE: And they wonder why?

SOME PEOPLE just don't understand how things go ...

If a dodge dealer 10 miles away from another one sold an SRT for 20k over ... there is no logical buisness move to sell it at MSRP.

Some states it's impossible to get one for invoice or MSRP at that , but it's not Dodge's fault ... blame the people paying that much because if you were a car salesman and had a car you could make 20g's off of if you keep it around a few months ... I think that's what's goinna happen , which is why you don't see many of theese on the road yet.

with these falling gas prices it looks to make the car more affordable

I paid $500 below MSRP for my Black R/T Six speed with every option other than the sunroof, someone had ordered it and couldnt pay for it when it arrived. That was around 3 weeks ago, of course the dealer went out of business 4 days after I bought the car!

RE: And they wonder why?

In the Salt Lake City area there are about 8 dodge dealers there is only 1 that will NOT GO OVER MSRP and that is Hinckley Dodge it is the oldest Dodge dealer in the USA and the sales manager is an a$$ but they still treat you right I tell everyone where I got my Challenger at MSRP and no doc fees no loan fees no area mark up, As long as people still pay over MSRP at other dealers in there area they will keep charging over MSRP and you get nothing for it and they dont even remember you. I can walk into service, Parts, and Sales and everyone greats me well except the Sales Manager. The Parts dept gives me a big discount and the service dept will do anything I ask and they only let there 2 top mechanics work on my car. Even the wash boy remembers my name when I walk through the place. There are still dealers that care about there customers. They are just hard to find

Be willing to travel. Sometimes just a one day drive can save you a ton of money over local dealers that won't budge.

You should be ashamed bobby.... had you ponied up the additional $500 you might not have sunk the dealer... [&o]

I guess wearing a bright red suit with a cape and the name BUD MAN in big letters across the chest probably commands a certain respect... ;)

And after all these years I thought it was that fancy belt that made you special! It does cinch in a beer gut, hehehe!:D

If you look at his pic it looks to me like the belt just cinches it up... to his chin... ;)

Maybe that was the plan all along, to ensure he'd fit in the seat of that cool fast Challenger of his. There aren't any chin bolsters so he is guaranteed to see the road[sm=icon_rock.gif]

I'm planning on buying in April. I figure that by then those dealers still in business will be willing to deal. It's a buyers market right now and don't let them make you think otherwise.
