Trak Pak - Different Exhaust?

So I've been quite frustrated lately. I thought I remembered reading a posting somewhere on some Challenger forum that the Trak Pak offered a slightly larger diameter exhaust as well as two resonators replacing the muffler. I could've sworn the post listed all the exhaust diameters for all the trim levels w and w/o trak pak. The post I thought I read was posting some weeks back I think.

However, today I go to look for it again and I simply cannot find it - at all. I'm not sure if it was on this forum or Allpar or another Challenger forum.
I'm starting to think I dreamt up the thread and that it never existed.

I did find the part about the resonators at Allpar on their information page -- but the information I remember reading about was a forum post and it had all the diameters listed. From Allpar:

Also included with the manual transmission is a unique dual exhaust that has two low-restriction bottle resonators replacing the underfloor muffler, and bright pedals.
So... anyone remember seeing a post with the rumored exhaust diameters or am I simply insane and losing my mind dreaming up nonexistent posts because I'm so excited...

Venthos, i remember what you are talking about and I think it was posted on this site. I'm not sure where it was posted but I think the SRT had a little bigger exhaust.

RE: Trak Pak - Different Exhaust?

Venthos?? What Challenger... there is no Challenger. The program was scrapped immediately after the concept was shown. No feasability in the market place with the economy and gas prices being what they are. Sounds like a nice dream though. Next thing you know people will be talking about a new Camaro or something... geez... ;)

Just think how much that would have sucked if they did scrap the challenger idea.

Venthos, Have you checked back at Red Letter Dodge... seems like I remember some discussion there about it, but not certain that's where I saw it either.

Another sighting. I read it too. Listed the different sizes for the exhaust systems. 6.4, 6.1, and the 5.7
He didn't post the one for the SE 3.5 V-6 didn't think it would matter. ;)

RE: Trak Pak - Different Exhaust?

You guys are torturing me here... haha. I've searched so many keywords combinations using both the forum search and google search specifying "site:dodgechallenger.com" in the criteria. I've literally "next paged" through 100 page threads scanning manually for it. I cannot for the life of me find it.

Part of the problem is I cannot search for say:

3.0"

with the quotation there for the "inch" desgination. Search engines will ignore it or treat it as if i'm specifying an absolute phrase to search for. I bet if I could search with the quotation I could find the where he mentions like:

3.0" R/T

or whatever. If anyone finds anything let me know =P I'm determined to find that post.

It was posted on this site, most likely under the topic of first modifications

There is no "Trak Pak", 08 or 09.

RE: Trak Pak - Different Exhaust?

My understanding/assumption (read it some where or was told) that Trak Pak comes automatically as part of the 09 SRT8 6 speed manual option (DEC).

This would include the improved differential, etc.

Does anyone really know?

RE: Trak Pak - Different Exhaust?

Trak Pak does indeed exist. Overpowered is correct.

Trak Pak is not really an "option" you can't specifically choose to have Trak Pak in of itself. Trak Pak is an automatically included package if you select the following packages:

[ On an SE ]
NONE

[ On an R/T ]
27F (6-Speed Manual Tremec)
27J (6-Speed Manual Tremec w/Popular Equipment Group)

[ On an SRT8 ]
21X (6-Speed Manual Tremec)

The Trak Pak package is code "DEC" as Overpowered says. You inherently get it if you choose any of the above packages, and you cannot get it if you do not have one of the above packages. Basically, if you select a 6-Speed Manual you get Trak Pak.

This is per the Chrysler document PDF that was leaked on 05/12/2008 as well as per their "buyer's guide" on dodge.com. This information is reinforced on sites like Allpar

Trak Pak consists of HSA (Hill Start Assist), Bright Pedal Covers, a "FULL OFF" ESP switch, and resonators replacing the muffler. -- The post I am trying to find mentioned (as a rumor) what the exhaust diameters were -- so I'm trying to find that. But, Trak Pak definitely exists.

RE: Trak Pak - Different Exhaust?

I posted the exhaust measurements a little while back. I can't remember which thread it was. The exhaust varied in pipe diameter and whether it had 2 resonators or a muffler. The trac pac does not affect exhaust specs. In a nutshell:

SE: Single exhaust with a 2.5” pipe; rolled muffler, single rear resonator, and single
outlet.
R/T Auto: Dual exhaust with 2.25” pipes, single muffler; dual rear
resonators; and dual exhaust tips.
R/T Manual: Dual exhaust with 2.5” pipes, 2 bottle resonators (replaces the muffler
from the automatic transmission system); dual rear resonators, and dual exhaust tips.
SRT Auto: Dual exhaust with 2.75” pipe; single muffler; dual rear
resonators; and dual exhaust tips.
SRT Manual: Dual exhaust with 2.75” pipes, 2 bottle resonators (replaces the
muffler from the automatic transmission system); dual rear resonators, and dual
exhaust tips.

Oh god it wasn't a dream! Hahaha

Thanks very much 1971Chall -- I can actually get some sleep now ;) Great info. Odd how I thought I remembered the SRT Manual having larger pipes than the SRT Auto -- oh well, guess it was just me manipulating my memory into what I wanted it to be ;)

Thanks much!

No problem. I would have replied sooner but I haven't been able to keep up with the forums as well since the nice weather came. Been out in the garage :-) The manual trans cars are using the resonators to give them a little more aggressive tone.

Venthos,

Thanks for the validation. I'm glad it's all part of the 6 speed package I'm getting.

RE: Trak Pak - Different Exhaust?

How's it going? When I bought my '06 Charger R/T (5.7L Hemi), I had the resonator removed and replaced with straight pipe. I asked the dealer service before I did this and they replied that not only would it not affect the warranty, but DO IT...it sounds great and adds a few HP!! Do you know if this should be done with a 6.1L Hemi with auto-trans?

Thanx, Dave

RE: Trak Pak - Different Exhaust?

you can't have strait pipes on cars in MA you have to have mufflers

mopar2ya 06-03-2008 05:10 AM

RE: Trak Pak - Different Exhaust?

I think he is talking about the removal of the resonator, not the actual muffler. ;)

ah ok

mopar2ya is right.........wondering if anyone knows if you can remove just the resonator on the SRT-8 Challenger. Works great on the R/T Charger.

Thanx, Dave
