But I believe (besides what others say) that the 08 challengers will be worth more in the future and now depreciate like a 09 will. Thats just my 00.02 cents
That's not always true. The 2nd year of the E-body 'Cuda (1971) brings more money at auctions than the first year (1970). The Challenger, however, could be different because of its limiterd numbers in 2008 and the dash plates.

My understanding is that the 1970 Challenger is the most sought-after by real collectors. Not to take anything away from any one of the other three model years, but again, 1970 is the Challenger you want to have if you're a serious "Collector".

Here is my take on waiting or buying now. I have one on order at msrp.
- I own a car now and it is worth 25,000 currently, 1 yr from now it will be worth approx 21,000 maybe. i know the chally will depreciate also but if it is a long term car it wont matter. A yr from now i will for sure pay at least 4000 more than now.
- If a lot of changes are made to the 09 engine then the 09 will have the kinks to work out more than the 08. 08 is a proven drivetrain.
- Wow factor is big in 08, not so much in 09 (low priority for me)
- It will more than likely be 2011 before a significant upgrade to the chally will take place.
- Congress passed 35mpg law yesterday so that is going to put at least a slight damper on the muscle car war somewhere down the road
- i'm not very patient

Sound like you got a decent deal by paying MSRP for the first year.

I hear what you are saying, but I still intend to buy my SRT in 2009- better price and less production "bugs."

I'm waiting 'till '09 so I can get mine the way I want it-in hopes that colors and options are in the pipeline by then-and I am sure it won't be sold as an 'investment' in a decade or two-I still have my first car, a '72 Demon340 that I bought with paperroute money back in '85...I guess I get attached-and enjoy re-living those 'good ol' days' every time I bang 2nd!!

I plan on looking int an 09 when details start coming out for me though it depends a lot on base price and dealer mark up if I buy in 09 i may have to dream bout it for a looooong time. Oh well the good Lord blessed me with the ability to be patient even if i dont use it that much.

My plan is to wait till late summer and either find an 08 that will go for retail OR maybe find one that someone has bought and not driven very much and is up for sale OR put in an order for an 09.
