I am in love with the design of this car and vow to own one after some things are taken cared of financially. I fear that the merger with GM would mean they are going to eventually axe the challenger. IF they do decide to merge, how much time do I have?

Anybodys guess at this point.

Would it make sense for GM to continue all the Chrysler product lines?
Not on a long shot.

Would it make sense for GM to keep a select few?
Very likely would.

Would it make sense for GM to keep the Challenger going?
Might be a stretch at best.

Would it make sense for GM to produce two models of retro muscle cars?
Probably not.

Only time will tell on this one. Who knows... the government might even step in and intervene to stop any merger of this magnitude.

The answer is YES...NO...MAYBE...DEPENDS...(Time will tell)
If you really want one....order soon...
Just remember that even if the merger doesn't go through...
Chrysler has stated that the Challenger will likely not run longer than five years...

Challenger is a hot, profitable car, so why wouldn't GM keep selling it?
I have a feeling that the Camaro will flop, so that would raise the Challenger's stock even more.
I found a couple of other cars I like too:

The Mercedes Benz GLK350

And the Suzuki Equator

The Camaro has 3k pre-orders. I don't think it will flop it may not do the best but if you take the Challenger out of the mix ... then I suspect a good amount of Camaro's are purchased.

exactly right rudy... and with the low price tag, gm is banking on selling this car in large volumes. Challenger is a limited car at 30k a year produced.

I still don't see GM keeping to competiting car lines: Camaro/Challenger.
IF the merger were to go through (and it looks as if it maybe dying on the vine as we speak..due to financial issues)
I think you would see them let the Challenger showly die...Unless they have long-range plans for the plant in Canada and need to keep it running for a while inorder to tool up for some GM product.
The Camaro will sell and more than likely very well...just as we Mopar people have waited for the Challenger to come back.....many more Bowtie people have been waiting for their beloved Camaro to make it's comeback...trust me it will sell.
The Challenger would be treated as an unwanted step-child in a GM world...not the favorite child, as that title would go to the "In-house" Camaro.

I still say the Camaro will flop.
I don't think those large volume sales will happen.
I don't care what kind of argument you make, the Camaro will flop.
I'm just not feeling anything good for the Camaro, and I don't think many other people are either.
The body design is totally retarded. It doesn't look like a muscle car. It just looks very bad.
It's too modern and funky looking. It looks a little like Picasso designed it, and I hate Picasso.
It doesn't give you that retro 70's nostalgia. It has an engine with a high pitched sound like a ricer.
There are just so many other cars I'd rather have instead of a Camaro.
GM really screwed up.

I love the 1978 trans-am and the 1979 trans am is pretty good too, but the new trans am concept (which I guess won't be made)
looks HIDEOUS!! I would never buy that just because I love the old Trans Ams.
So I don't think millions of previous Camaro owners will necessarily buy the new Camaro.
My intuition tells me that the new Camaro will really not be a hot seller.

In response to your question if you'll be able to buy a Challenger in two years, definitely yes. Contact me if Dodge has gone out of business, and you can have mine for, say, a mere $125,000.

lol, I highly doubt the camaro will flop. It's a legit mustang killer, with good looks, and strong customer loyalty. One of the reasons why I prefer the challenger over the camaro is because I know everybody and their wife will eventually buy the camaro.
