window drop feature when opening the doors
What is the best way to prevent the window glass from freezing to the door weather strip (at the bottom of the window)?
Mine froze this way the other day and when I opened the door, the window could not drop the 1 inch or so it normally does. I was able to open the door but when I closed the door, the window could not seal properly by running up into the top weather seal, it just closed on the outside of the seal. While driving the car, the thin coat of ice finally melted enough for me to put the window down a little and back up to seal properly but is there a sure fire way to prevent this freeze? |
RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
You may want to get can of spray de-icer, and clear the ice before you open the door.

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
Cover the window at night with a sheet or blanket or join me in AZ. No frozen windows in the East Valley.:D

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
OMG I'm up here in NJ and my windows are gonna freeze too....HEY ROSWELL I'm packin up and movin down by you , Is that OK ? LOL or a little McQuires Rubber/vinyl black again treatment on the seal with your finger and it won't hurt the seal either. And now Roswell is going ' phewwwww " scared the heck out of me for a minute there...LMAO....Fat Cat[sm=gears.gif]

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
Cool. I'll try some silcone lube.
Yeah, garage would do the trick, at least for overnights, but work parking lot or other errands could still pose a problem. If I planned this purchase properly, I would have had a shed built for my lawn equipment and then the Challenger would fit in the garage. I could put the wife's Commander outside instead of the Challenger but that would cause other "freezing" issues, if you catch my drfit... |

Whenever there was freezing rain (and I'm originally from Iowa, so I've seen plenty of that), both doors would stick shut. If it had rained enough, you couldn't budge either of them, unless there happened to be a water hose nearby that could be used to melt the ice. And then as soon as that water froze, the doors would stick shut again. I broke one of the door handles off one time while trying to get the driver's door open. |

ORIGINAL: RoswellGrey [/quote] You sure you didn't have the "Dukes" option were the factory simply welded the doors shut...it was usually only found on 1969 Chargers painted Orange, but a few Challengers may have left the factory with this little known option...... (This option also helped during street racing as it made it almost impossible to get your doors blown off) |
RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
Yeah, Joe. Except in my case, they forgot to roll the windows down before they welded the doors shut. :D:D:D

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
Mine is in the snow for the first time today. We are to get 1 to 2 inches with 30 MPH wind gusts. If the window freezes to the rubber, I guess I can use the remote start with the defroster on high until it melts.

That's why you buy a big, heavy car like the Challenger, Paladin, so you can plow through it easily. You should donate Crush to some deserving folks in the North. :D

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
Not a snowballs chance in hell.:D

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
Greg i think RG needs to be tested for drugs
|
RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
You don't get a lot of snow out there in Twentynine Palms, Shaky. That's another one we could donate to a deserving family in Snow Country! Admittedly, yours and Paladin's both are old 08s, but there's probably still at least a couple of years of service in them. :D

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
ok it's official RG needs to be tested for DRUGS. it would be a cold day in hell befor i give up my baby girl. thats why we live were we live cuz we can drive them all year round.

He'll just have to break out a book, sit down next to the pool and study on it......don't forget the sun glasses and tanning cream Paladin...wouldn't want you to get burned by the sun....Yes, it's a DRY heat out here.... |
RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
Should have typed the following:
"And, forgive Paladin's lack of knowleage regarding that thing you call snow". (Sorry the sun was in my eyes.........) |
RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
Speaking of sun, I think I'll put on a pair of shorts and Tee when I get home, pop a cold beer and put a little wax detail on CRUSH.

Just consider that my Christmas card to you fellows that live in weather challenged areas.

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
It was a cool 78 when I left work today. I had to touch CRUSH up in long pants and sleeves.:D
|
RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
It"s about 40 in my garage... but at least we"re keeping dry... |
RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
You know, those Hemi Orange 08s indeed DO have a future ahead of them in the North. ;)

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors

As we speak at 11:33 a.m. CST, it's 71 in ever-pleasant San Antonio. Yes, the Challenger is going to work with me today. :D

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
As of 11:30 MST, it is 26 F with a wind chill of 17 F. Everyday is a good day here, snowing, raining, sunny or other wise. Snowy is fun though when you have an open area to do doughnuts.

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
I have a suggestion. Take a large plastic garbage bag, super glue a small magnet to each corner and drape the bag over the window. The magnets will hold it in place. Hobby Lobby has magnets in various sizes. Ta da!
|
RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
It's 1515 MST here in the Vally of the Sun with a cool 71 degrees. Think I'll go smoke a few. With the windows up of course.:D

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
Pretty good. I got downtown a little early this afternoon, so I just went out to stick some more money in the 2-hour meter the Challenger is at. Another guy from work went out with me, so we were standing by the Challenger talking. Some guy walks up, doesn't say anything and starts going completely around the car. He even gets down on his hands and knees and checks under the rear end. Finally, he looks up at us and says, "Cool car! I used to have a '73 Cuda." The guy I was with was amazed that I didn't think it was odd that someone was checking out my car. :D

RE: window drop feature when opening the doors
Dodge Favre, you would be surprised. It might take a little more time, but those spinning wheels can actually get pretty warm and you still get the smell of burning rubber. Granted, it will never be anything like doing it on a dry surface, but it will wear them down over time.
The window thing, maybe I'm lucky because we don't have the freezing rain here, but for some reason I haven't had an issue with the Mustang and the window getting stuck. It may not move much when it is freezing outside and it has snowed, but it doesn't get stuck to the rubber. I hope that I don't have an issue with the Challenger, if I ever see it that is. Hopefully they started building it. |
