Old School Diehard
THAT,S IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW THAT,S WHAT I,M TALKIN ABOUT,THANKS JH27NOB, the only big problem,is that they were only takin orders in AUG-SEPT.ALL FOR THE MID 30,S,PLUS 3,ENGINE CHOICES.But,their only makin about 100,and the ordering was months ago.As usual,I,m screwed!!!
I can see your point on some of this, However I live In SC and it gets freakin HOT, so yes I'll be the weenie with AC in my Challenger. BTW I've had several Musclecars without lots of creature comforts as well (74 dart sport w/71 340 4 speed, no PS no PB all drums-scary ride!) I do wish the auto makers would give the buying public the choices in drivetrain etc that they did back in the day. I ended up buying a USED 09 R/T at a good deal but it happened to be loaded and yup I'm ok with that!
This all reminds me of the time I got my Tookus handed to me, but good, by a guy in a '65 Ford Falcon. I was cruising along in my new '89 Mustang LX 5 liter hatchback thinking I was DA MAN. 302 ci of raw muscle (for that day and time, anyway) and I was looking for trouble on Atlanta's hwy 285, a big 10 lane circle around the city. I catch a glimpse of a bright yellow streak up ahead and I gun it to catch up. I pull along side what had to be the worse looking piece of shade tree Rod building I had ever seen. None of the wheels matched, there was NO interior, hell, I think he was sitting on a milk crate and the thing sounded as if there was also NO exhaust installed. Needless to say I made the mistake of giving him the "Go" sign. He was 4 cars out and still pulling away by the time I completed my move from 5th to 3rd.
That wasn't the 1st time I had heard a small block screaming past 7000 rpm but it still made the hairs on the back of my neck stand to attention. I'd still swear I heard the tires break loose... I pull up to him again, but this time I'm ready. I'm in third now and no way he pulls me like that again. The second the hood of my car lifted he was out on me 2 cars. I remember how silly I felt when I realized that if he didn't slow down there was no way I could catch him. I sheepishly cruise up to him trying hard not trigger another beat-down. Fortunately, he slows and I sign language to him that I wasn't trying to race. I was out Gunned and out matched and, finally, I knew it. Turns out he had dropped a built 347 (289 bored and stroked) producing something like 450HP at the wheels in a car weighing 2400lbs. He was out on a shake down run. My first lesson in power to weight ratio.
What really stuck with me was how willing I would have been to trade my optioned up Mustang for that bare bones Falcon.

[:@] SCREWED AGAIN!!! Back when I was talkin to some dealers about the Classic package last week on ordering one the way I wanted, they told me they didn,t think they could gurantee me the E/Pricing even if I had a paid pre-order,they could on the rebates, but not e/p. They said they would verify, and if they could lock it in they would.Well guess what, the e/p,is over allready, after only a week.Plus, they said they would not have been able to gurantee it,cause it was only good at time of delivery. So all of you who bought your machine this past week congrats, for you who ordered and think you will still lock it in,YOU ARE SCREWED,BIG TIME. It will probably be back, but who has a crystal ball to figure out when to order.I love the Challengers look, and the camaros and stangs don,t look near as sinister, but, the Classic in a stick is mid thirties,I can get a SS camaro in cloth, with more H.P.,for about 30g,s. I am a patient man,and we all know some dealers are going to order Classic challengers, and they are going to discount them at some point, same with the camaro,Ithink this summer is going to be a real buyers market. Some dealers told me they plan on ordering some Classic challengers for stock, and you all know, with the SRT,s coming out in 08,and the Rt,s last fall, the impulse buyers are pretty much weeded out,and have their machines already. So,the deals will be there. Also,do you folks know of any more future packages for the Challenger? Will the yellow be just a color to order,or will it be part of a package like on the Classic, and if so,could their be a T/A package be coming for the yellow?
So all of you who bought your machine this past week congrats, for you who ordered and think you will still lock it in,YOU ARE SCREWED,BIG TIME.
RR, I ordered my RT Classic Silver 6 spd last week on 1/29/2009. I have a signed contract sitting in front of me. I don't think I'm screwed. I wasn't the only one who ordered a Challenger last week. If look at the registry there were 6 others that were ordered.

I sure hope your right, but I asked several dealers, and they all said, even if you paid in full,we can gurantee all the rebates, but the E/P,is ONLY good upon delivery, and they stressed to me today when I called them back, that a signed order means nothing on the E/P,and that if anybody thinks they can get it later just because they ordered during that time, they are in for a huge surprise. But,they also said, that if E/P,is back when the car arrives, then, and only then, you will recieve it.These guys that told me this are the owners, not misinformed salesman, tryin to make a sale. You need to contact a regional cust. sevice rep,and they will set it staight. Also, the programs can only get better, not worse,so when your car comes in,you are entitled to those programs if you wish,if they are better than the ones you currently are locked in on.But if I were a betting man,I would say,the E/P,for the challenger has gone bye bye.
I hope everyone get's a Challenger with or without any of the stuff they don't want. I didn't want the sun roof . Our 300C has it . The wife loves it . I hate it . I have sort of gotten used to good leather. But few cars have it anymore. The leather in my R/T is ok . My 71 R/t was more bare bone's . And loved it. I had a Black Buick GS Stage 1 455. Luxury and very quick after some tuning and putting things together right. Quick enough it out run a 900 kaw. on the street in the 1/8th several time's . I'm just so happy the Challenger was made again. And look's like the 70 model even if it is much different. Got my R/T off the showroom floor . Black , Silver R/T stripe , 6 speed track pack , leather and up grade 6 CD changer . and 20 inch wheel's. Almost perfect to what I wanted. Only the engine block heater I could have done without. Long live Dodge and the Challenger . I'd love to see a R/T like mine on Pass time or Pinks.
I don,t get the block heater option coming on a gas engine, unless it,s going to stay in Canada, what dumb dealer would be ordering a car for stock in Kentucky, and adding a block heater,on a sports car no less!! We all have them on our diesels, and when I was in the AF,we would have them in our gas trucks that were way up north, like Minot AFB in N.Dakota.We would also use dipstick heaters to keep the oil loose when the temp would crash. My own personal opinion,I would see if I could outfit a R/T to 18,s,or 16 inch wheels.I think this huge wheel look looks wierd.
