Default Awesome Electric Car!

You need to see the performance of this electric car.

This is supposed to be an Elise that has been modified.

Performance Specs

The Tesla Roadster’s specs illustrate what it does (0 to 60 in about 4 seconds) — as well as what it doesn’t (zero emissions, zero motor oil). With one moving part in the motor, no clutch, and two gears, it’s not only a joy to drive, but to own as well. There is no motor oil to change; no filters, belts, or spark plugs to replace; no oxygen sensors to mistrust before an emissions test — in fact, no emissions test required ever. Other than inspection, the only service we recommend for the first 100,000 miles is brake and tire service.

Tesla Roadster Specifications*
Style 2-seat, open-top, rear-drive roadster
Drivetrain Electric motor with 2-speed electric-shift manual transmission with integral differential
Motor 3-phase, 4-pole electric motor, 248hp peak (185kW), redline 13,500 rpm, regenerative "engine braking"
Chassis Bonded extruded aluminum with 4-wheel wishbone suspension
Brakes 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS
Acceleration 0 to 60 in about 4 seconds
Top Speed Over 130 mph
Range Over 200 miles
Battery Life Useful battery life in excess of 100,000 miles
Energy Storage System Custom microprocessor-controlled lithium-ion battery pack
Full Charge As short as 3.5 hours

Hmmm...an electric car I would actually consider. My question is how much this is supposed to cost and how much replacing the batteries would be. My main reservation on these things is that normally electronics tend to have more trouble with variations in the weather and other things. I'm also concerned about the safety of the battery packs as I know in the case of hybrids, they can become dangerous. How much money would it cost per mile in comparison to the gasoline model?

Interesting find nonetheless. Thanks for posting it Jeremiah.

I have seen this beofre and looked into it, then I saw the price tag. The batteries are claimed to last over 100k miles. Price of the vehicle, without many options $98k. I kept reading just out of curiosity, but new would never get this.

100K is a good life for batteries, but my concern is how much they are going to cost when they do go out because nothing lasts forever. I want a car that has the capability of lasting 200K at least without any major expenses (especially with that price tag).

What kind of mufflers do run on that thing? Oh, yeah... no mufflers. Sorry guys but I was raised in the intercombustion era. And change is hard for us. I like the sound, the smell and the whole expirience of the driving pleasure. But if you can get others to drive it and they stay off my back... well I'm up for that. So let them eat cake or off with thier heads. I just want to finish my silver years as my teen years began. Except without all the acne and selfish juvenile behavior. Well maybe just a little juvenile behavior.

If I had that kind of money I could buy one, I would. Better than wasting money on a baseball.

And still would have my Mustang for that combustion engine V8 sound

Tim Robbins, playing future old-school man Woodrow 'Woody' Blake in 'Mission to Mars' summed it up best: "Gentlemen, Internal Combustion Engines. Accept no substitutes."

That car is a Lotus Elise and I like those cars. My favorite is the M250 but they never manufactured it.

Forget that it is electric, the body is awesome.
