Chrysler to Cut Pickup Engine Production
The Daily Auto Insider
Wednesday, September 6, 2006 (Road & Track)

Chrysler said it will eliminate an assembly shift at its Mack Avenue Engine 1 plant in Detroit starting in January, the Dow Jones Newswires reports.

The facility produces large engines for pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles. Earlier, Chrysler Group Chief Executive Tom LaSorda said the company is planning its business around gasoline at $3 to $4 a gallon, which anticipates a continuing shift by consumers away from pickup trucks and SUVs.

Chrysler has seen bulging inventories of some pickup truck and SUV models and is cutting production by about 10% in this quarter and by a smaller amount in the fourth quarter, the story said.

What engines are made at that plant? I thought the Hemis were all made in Mexico?

I guess they could be referring to the 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engine line. I believe those are built here in the U.S.
