Default Earth Day

April 22 is, of course, Earth Day. To celebrate, an associate of mine in Des Moines usually gets out his (now normally garaged) '69 Chevelle SS 396, carefully backs out into the street in front of his house, tachs it up to about 6800 and pulls a hole shot, thereby spewing several pounds of hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. I asked him Saturday if he was going to do it again this year. "You bet," he replied. "I had to move some stuff out of the way, but I had it fired up today. I'm ready to celebrate." So if you, too, hate to listen to nattering, tree-hugging, square-car-driving ecologists, help drown them out by following my associates' example. He'll probably do it about 1 p.m. CDT.

Oh darn I missed it, I guess I will have to wait for next year to fill up on 100% gasoline, remove my K&N and place in a dirty air filter, and repeatedly flog my gas pedal at every street light, while listening to CDs powered by a Disc Man with Mercury filled batteries.
