What was your first car?

Mine was a '76 MGB that my Dad gave me for taking such good care of it and doing so well in school.

I spun a rod bearing in it while in college and took that opportunity to build it up...Crane "World" Cam, Weber 45DCOE sidedraft carb, 5-ring pistons, new oil pump, valves, optical ignition, the whole deal. It already had other goodies on it, like a tube shock conversion kit w/KYB's, lowering springs in front, de-arched leaf springs in back, Pirelli tires, roll bar, air dam, front & rear sway bars, free-flow exhaust, fog lights...and DODGE CHALLENGER WHEELS. Yep, remember the little, wimpy Challenger, probably some 80's version? Same bolt pattern as my MG. Allowed me to put 205's on it.

It would keep up with a 240z with a 6 cylinder, no problem. Hey, that was good for an MG! Rode like a skateboard but I could 4-wheel drift that car through a turn like nobody's business, the balance was so good.

Ah, memories.

NEXT!

RE: What was your first car?

68 Plymouth Fury III 2DR. Hardtop with a 318. It was kind of a mutt, but it was a beautiful car. Bronze with a black vinyl top and interior. Got my first ticket in that car. When the trooper asked if I knew I was going 86 in a 55 I told him I didn't think it would run that fast. He got a chuckle out of it and wrote me for 70 in a 55 so I wouldn't have to appear before the judge.

RE: What was your first car?

i got out of my first "big ticket" in my first car...having the cop (who was a friend of my dads) saying "you were going over 4 times the speed limit!"

:D

RE: What was your first car?

Depends on what you define as being my first car. The first car I had to drive was a '96 Olds Ciera that my dad had me drive after my brother was done with it, problems, problems, and more problems. How I hated that car when my dad first got it for himself. It broke down the first week he bought it. If you define my first car by which one I picked out, my current car is my first car. A '97 3.5L powered Intrepid, hence my name on Dodge forum and my signature. I have put around 44,000 miles since I got it. It hasn't been perfect but it has been a good car over all. If I ever trade in this car, it will be replaced with a 425 hp Challenger with a 6-speed.

BadStratRT, how fast were you going?

A brand spanking new 1976 Dodge Aspen R/T. She was Metallic black with red body decals and a white interior, automatic stick on the floor. I ordered it upon leaving my first tour in Germany and picked it up in Maryland.

Man I was 20 years old and in love with that car.

Those Aspen R/Ts had the 360 engine in it. That must have been a fun car to drive. My dad had an Aspen, but it was only a Slant Six, unfortuneatly.

Yes you are right but I was very young and could not afford the insurance of a 360 so, the 318..

I didn't know they had a 318 available for the R/T model. The 318 wasn't bad though. My dad had two Coronet's with them in there. At least, you didn't have the Slant Six like my dad did in the Aspen.

My first car was a 72 VW bug. Cost $400 bucks, but ran well.

My mom's first car was a VW Beetle, I'm not sure what year though. She loved it and regreted trading it in for her Chevy Vega. She had the first year and she had so much trouble with that car. She is off and on trying to find a classic Beetle.

What kind of fuel mileage did you get with your Beetle, TechmanBD.

RE: What was your first car?

i have always thought that the aspen RTs were very cool in the black and red/orange...

when i got caught for the big one, i had the 340ci which went into the car in 1997ish, but i didt have the big gears...it had 3.55s...then 3.91s, then i had 4.10s last year when it ran 12.60s, and this winter, 4.56s went in...:)

so not a world of top speed, but the old girl will scoot off the line...

Do I have to be honest? Oh well, It was the 1983 Oldsmobile Cutless Broughm model...really cushy seats. Had the cruise control stick break on me one night when I was about to set cruise and got a pretty good shock from that rod! Girlfriend at the time thought it was funny as hell though.

Most of you have seen this but this was my first car......73 Dodge Challenger.

This car is why I have deep emotions for the new concept Challenger. I have
alway thought thiis body style was the badest of the of all muscle car body styles.
Of course I put the 'Cuda in the the same category. They are brothers.

I can't wait until the new one comes out.

My first actual car was a 1974 camaro I bought for $300. But it sat in my sisters yard and never got driven. The first car I actually had to drive was a 74 Challenger.

1970 Dodge Dart, 4 door, slant six automatic and not much else..... something that your grandma (and a cautious father) could love. One of the toughest cars I ever had, and also one of the best in snow that I ever drove. I'd love to have one as a winter beater even now that was as good as that one was!

It was my dream when I was very young to buy a new car and do what I've done, now some may say I'm [sm=bs.gif]ing but if anyone wants to bet lets say 30K ( I'd like a free Challenger ) please let me know. Here's an old post from one of the Camaro forums I was on, http://forum.fbodyowners.com/forum/s...milage+old+car .

My first car was a 1972 Cuda in 1982. It was the only car I wanted. 340 S motor that screemed. I put a 440 in it with 3.91 gears a few years later. Metallic gold with black side stripes and Centerlines. As a teenager, I had no problems living under the car, but these days my back can't handle that.

do you have pictures of it? and of the 812 miles, why were those miles put on? cruising? the sudden need for a car?

Pictures are on my home computer back in Michigan ( I'm at my winter home in Alabama ), did you check out the Camaro link to see the picture posted there? I'll be home in Michigan sometime in April, I can take all the picture you would like and e-mail them to you if you would like.

I believe it was September of 68 when I picked up my Cutlass at the factory, the 69 models had just been released. I never drove the Cutlass to work but would do a little cruising with my friends on the weekends. It probably was sometime in November of 68 when I put the Cutlass away, I never drove the Cutlass again until 73......drove it seven miles to a new home....and it hasn't been driven since. BTW, not sure what you meant by " the sudden need for a car? ".

RE: What was your first car?

Yes. I could not either. I wouldn't drive it all the time. Maybe once a week to work during the nice months, and on weekends. I thought it would be bad not to as far as the engine.

Do you start it once in awhile? Change the fluids regularly?

I have no plans of ever driving my Cutlass, I never start it becasue there's no reason to..if I were I would need to get the temp high enough before turning it off or you'll only cause problems. When I put the car away I changed the oil/filter, put a few drops of oil down each cylinder and keep 45 lbs of air in the tires...that's it.
