What is the name of your dealer in Idaho? Sounds like a road trip is in order.

It must be Dave Smith Motors in Kellog, ID. Has always been thier policy to sell at Invoice.

Ok, thanks. I will do a search for a website and get in touch with them. That gives me an excuse to take the toyhauler up to the St. Anthony sand dunes for a few days of sand dune riding with the ATVs. I could haul the Challenger back home in the toyhauler along with the ATVs, and not accumulate the extra miles on the car driving it home.

Went to Rockland Dodge in Nanuet, NY this morning. They were advertising a 2009 R/T loaded with all the options at MSRP. They quoted me MSRP over the phone. I was ready to buy right then and there.

Lo and behold, I was surprised when I spoke to the "Internet Sales Manager." He quoted me $5000 over MSRP. When I got up to leave, he said just for me, he could see if the "Sales Manager" would take $2000 over MSRP. I left as soon as I could. Silly salesman games.

Anyway, thank God for forums like this were this kind of treatment can be noted. Be forewarned, Rockland Dodge should be ashamed.

Thanks!

Dave Smith Motors called me back today, and I spoke with Christine Ness, who sounds like a very knowledgable sales person. She seems to be a nice person as well; very pleasant; easy to talk to. Anyway, right now Dave Smith Motors will sell a 2009 SE or RT for $200 over invoice. They have a black one, a white one, a silver one, and a dark titanium one in stock. They want MSRP for an SRT Challenger though.

I also went to our local dealership again today and test drove a 2008 SRT with the auto transmission. NICE CAR! Very smooth and quiet. Drives nice. Power did not feel as strong as I was expecting, likely because the car is fairly heavy. After driving the 6.1 Hemi, the 5.7 Hemi is not going to be enough. So this is going to be expensive. I am about 90% certain that I want a 2009 SRT Challenger in Hemi orange, with a manual transmission. Now it is just a matter of seeing which dealer is going to give me a more fair price.

Umm, not really. My daily driver all summer has been a 950cc KTM that does fifth gear roll on wheelies like its childs play. Don't worry though, I was very very impressed with the Challenger overall. How impressed? Impressed enough that I went back to the local dealer and talked some more to the owner of the dealership. In the end he matched the price from Idaho, and I bought the black 2008 SRT8. It is #1629. And I guess black isn't so bad afterall. Here is a picture of it home in the garage, parked next to my other black Mopar. Now I've got a matched set.

Man I love happy endings Nice car MoparToYou. I'm torn between a Black 09 SRT-8 6-speed or an 09 R/T 6-speed. I do know I want a 6-speed. I'm hearing good things about the 09 5.7. Seems they have some goodies that will really make that motor roar. But top of the line SRT-8 is what I can afford and feel I should go that route. I have settle for less when it comes to cars and I feel I need to go this way while I have the opportunity. But I have until late Oct. to make up my mind.

This is the car my wife and I have wanted since we were teenagers, except we could not afford to buy one back then. Every time we would see a movie like Fantasia or Vanishing Point we would go goo goo gaa gaa over the car in the movie. The more we thought about it the more it became clear that this was going to be a once in a lifetime car that we would keep forever. We did not trade in another car, and the Challengr will not be a daily driver. This one was going to be a keeper, so we got the SRT8. Could not be more happy with it at this point.

And I want to say thanks to all the people that posted on this thread, and other threads on this forum. Having the knowledge about what other people are paying for their Challengers was priceless when dealing for this car. I came away from this car purchase with a greater sense of satisfaction than I have with other car purchases in the past. I drove away feeling like I had got a "fair" price; not necessarily a great price, but certainly very fair.
