Default Who has physically seen the GT500, Camaro and Challenger?

I was just looking for peoples comments who have actually seen all three cars in person and get on their comments on the design and how they compare/which they liked. I finally saw the Camaro concept today at the car show, and to be honest, I thought it looked really good - pictures do not do it justice. Prior, I had only seen photos and was not impressed however, when you see the car it is pretty impressive. In contrast, I finally saw the GT500 for the first time, at the same show, and was not all that impressed at all. I thought the design looked dated (I know it is based on a retro car however, compared to the Camaro it did not hold up well at all in my mind) and there is way too much room between the rear tires and wheel wells. I have not seen the Challenger concept in person and was hoping to get an idea as to how it fared when compared to the ones I have seen. Looking for objective opinions and ones not biased towards the Challenger. Thanks!!!

I have seen everyone except the Challenger because they won't send it up to Kansas City for who knows why. I actually had the opposite experience with the Camaro. I think it looks worse in person than in pictures. The GT500 looked about how I expected. I'm not that impressed with it to say the least.

I have seen all three cars, Seen a few GT500's on the road one convertable. The orange and white GT500 almost took my breathe away as it came around the corner, very nice color combo on that vehicle. The Camaro i've seen once at the Detroit auto show last year and was not impressed, it was the silver one and i didnt like much about it at all. The Challenger is mezmerizing in person, ive seen it twice at the Detroit auto show in 2006 and at the Mopar nats in C-bus Ohio and i gotta say it looked a lot better at the mopar nats because you could get within 2 feet of it and really look at it in detail. The Challenger is by far in its own class..

I actually have a Charcoal with satin stripe GT 500. The car is ubelievably fast, but I am looking forward to the Challenger, I think appearance wise it is a nicer looking car.

I spoke with my Dodge dealer today where I have money down on a Challenger and I was told I would be able to order my car in about 2 - 3 months. Delivery should be befroe Nov. for the first cars is what I was told. If that is true or just what he told me to make happy, I am not sure?

My first post so I hope I did not mess it up!

Hi, I think your dealer is mistaken on what he told you, I just think he said that to make you happy, don't think bad about it. Most dealers don't have a clue about the car when it going to be released. Dodge has said that they will show the production car at the Detroit Auto Show in 2008, I believe that will be in Febuary.

I have seen all three in person. The Camero looked really less than impressive in silver, the orange and black convertible looked good. The Mustang looks like a Mustang. And the Challenger looks even better in person, you could almost stick your head in the open window at the Nationals.

Like everyone else, I say the Camaro concept has a very nice 'rear' but the front, damn...IMHO, very bad design. I am no designer, but just my opinion and everyone else's that I've shown it too.

I actually hope they change it so it as I've always liked the Camaro (but did always prefer the Firebird design ...go Kitt!)

And as for the GT500, very nice. Saw the standard white w/ blue stripes, thought it looked quite slim with the blackend rock gaurds (panel under the doors, ground effects...not really sure what they're called).

You can see the Camaro here...scroll about half way down.

I did see all of them last October at the Texas State Fair. I had a difficult time taking a good picture because it was so dim in there.

Take a look here:

The Ford GT500 is rerto, the Callenger is retro, the Camaro takes small cues from the original design. A lot of Caddy styling went into the Camaro. It would make a really nice Trans-am. I prefer Hot Rod mags retro Camaro. It gives you the look of the original with a modern upgrade to the drive train and the comfort in the cabin. I have 71 Challenger and I treasure the time I drive it but its always more comfortable in my mind than on the street.

I've seen all three and here are my impressions:

The 500 GT was far too blocky and slab sided for my taste. It just had no sleekness to it. It was done in White with blue stripes. The Ford display also was almost devoid of people which for them must have been very scary.

The Camaro was just a train wreck design wise. Nothing flows and the lines meet at awkward angles. Chopped up is the term I can best describe it with. There were design elements of past years there but they were incoherently executed into something that doesn't pay homage to those past designs. It just made me think "What the hell were they thinking?" There was quite a crowd there but most of them had a blank stare on their faces like they were being cheated by GM. I even asked a few what they thought of it and there was no real positive or enthusiastic response from any of them.

The Challenger display was abuzz with an enthusiastic crowd, all with big grins on their faces. The Challenger just glowed from it's display and the one word I kept hearing from nearly every mouth was "AWSOME!" People were talking openly to complete strangers about their anticipation and the prospects of owning a piece of modern MOPAR history because most everyone there said they WOULD own one.
The Challenger is pretty faithful in regards to the lines of the original. There are alot of subtleties that have been captured that some would not notice as true to the original. Character lines for lack of a better term around the rear backlight and lower body are still there. The quarter kick and C pillar departure are perfect. The power bulge hood is a great rendition of the original and functional to boot. The proportions look "right" even though there are shorter overhangs front and back. The only thing that I noticed that looks somewhat awkward are the rocker panels. They are more slab sided and not turned under like the originals. This gives the car a feeling of being taller than it actually is. But this doesn't really detract from the cars beauty. I'm interested to see the tail section treatment that will be produced and whether the production headlamps will be as striking as the concept. I would also like to at least have the option of factory spoilers, duckbill for the rear and split chin for the front. I put these on my '73 and they just look like they are supposed to be there, not like add ons at all.

Anyhow these are my impressions and my humble opinions. Can't wait!
