Sorry, that is too funny.

So true about the lack of marketing by Dodge. Same thing destroyed the 04-06 GTO (ok, the GTOs bland looks didn't help either).

When it comes to Retro, however, I think Dodge nailed it point blank. The 05-09 Mustang has retro themes from various model years, though primarily the 67 comes through as the most noticable. But the Dodge Challenger looks closer to the acual 70s car. Only the 2004 Ford GT (GT40) looks closer to the original car than the new Challlenger.

How many have been asked how they like their new Mustang ! Mostly those in mid 30's or younger . My waitress today where I have eaten for the past year almost every morning . Asked if that was my new Black Mustang . I said Challenger . She said Mustang Challenger . I said NO! It is a Dodge Challenger. She gave me a funny look and said she loved the looks of it . That is about the 5th time I've had to explain that Dodge made a car called the Challenger back in the 70's to different people . And now again. I even had one person say the new Mustang look's much better than the old one. Then I had to explain to them it wasn't a Mustang .
Yea, What he said.

Mustang guy had to have a look . I had washed my Black R/T 6 speed this afternoon . Temperature was in mid 30's here in Ky. I pulled it in the garage and wiped the water off with my leather chamois . The wife had been after me to wash her black 300C . So I was washing it also . With the garage door open . The garage faces away from the street on the side of the house. A guy driving a Rural Electric pickup turned off the road next to my home onto my street and stopped. He then pulled into the driveway. They change meter's about every 6 month's for some reason . So I thought that was what he wanted . And walked over to talk to him . He had got a glimpse of the rear end of the Challenger or maybe he had seen me driving it before. He had a 08 Mustang that he has already changed the rearend gears and put a pos in . And other stuff . I showed him the Challenger and he just drooled over it . And said when did the 09 come out . His jaw really dropped when I told him the MSRP price that I got it for after he asked how much. He would have gotten a Challenger if he only knew or saw one before buying the Mustang from what he said. Don't think today was the last I'll see of him . He had to go after getting a call on his cell phone. He did know a guy I have known for many years at my work at GE before I retired. And lives not far from me . He may have told him about the Challenger as my friend saw it shortly after getting it .

Difference being ofcourse you can get into a new GT for as little as 23 grand. Not sure how you'd swing that on an R/T.

My local dealer had two R/Ts sitting out in the lot and a third in the show room. Stopped in to check out how much they wanted. Truth be told I've always wanted to get a Challenger. These were pretty much loaded R/Ts. 38 grand on the sticker. Screw that.

Mine stickered for $39,000... not even close to what I payed They are dealing. You have to go in with the idea to walk if you don't get your price.

Oh I'm sure if I were willing to travel far out of state...

This is the same dealer (Lithia Dodge) that several months back told me Dodge literally FORCED them to get $10K over MSRP on the SRT and $5K over on the R/T.

I bet their tune has changed now and they would "settle" for MSRP/sticker. Still to rich for my poor blood however.

I got my R/T 20 minutes from my house for almost $2 G under MSRP. Not sure I could get the same under sticker for an SRT8, though.

My way of purchasing anything. I first weigh the how much do I like it . Look's , option's and price . Can I aford the asking price. Then I look at or drive one . Seat of pants feel . Do I get a good feeling driving it . And is it pratical for me . I looked at the Mustang last year. Drove a 4.6 GT with Stick . Don't remember the price . Think it was maybe $29,000.00 . It did put a smile on my face . And I liked it . The first Mustang I have ever driven . Can understand why people like them . Then looked at the Shelby . I really wanted a automatic . They don't make them . The clutch was very stiff . Didn't think I could handle that with nerve problem's in my leg's from diabetes . I thought about looking at the GT with automatic. But ended up driving a Roush that had a nice clutch but rode rough. Almost purchased it anyway. Wanted something different . Then after almost buying it ( came within $500.00 ) . I decided to wait on the Challenger R/T . Funny really . I ended up with the 6 speed . But it had the upgrade sound system with 368 watt amp. Leather , 20's with 3.92 pos and had nune of the stuff I didn't want . MSRP $36.300.00 . approx. And that is what I gave for it . Wouldn't change a thing . I guess having had a new 71 R/T 340 sort of infected my soul . And never got over it . I'm happy with the looks , car and price . And never owned anything that got so much attention . Except a 83 proto type Monte Carlo SS that I had 6 month's before anyone else in my area. They even shut down a small drag strip long enough for me to make some pass's to see what ET it would run . The crowd loved it . Think it would be the same way with the Challenger now at that strip. Worth every penny I paid for it.

Some dealerships are still putting the mark up on the cars and then coming off the price of that in South Texas. I on the other hand got a Fully Loaded RT auto that stickered for little over 39k for 34k with a lifetime BTB warranty for 1400. and only ended up 2k down in my diesel truck trade in. help to have friends in low places.
