I have driven the Charger 5.7L V8 and it definitely had power. It felt a little heavy in the front end but I would probably opt for the 5.7L as opposed to a V6. If they remain consistent and offer it with MDS then highway driving would certainly remain close to the V6 in terms of MPG.

"Hey Justine, what are you looking from for the car? Is it going to be a daily driver, weekend cruiser or are you looking for a bit of both with a bit of punch for when you need it. You might find the V6 will be ok, i guess you wont know till the car makes production and gets tested.

What if you took the V6 and used her for 12 months to allow for some nice used R/T or SRT models to appear at a more affordable price. You could always trade her in then for the more powerful car if you think you still need the performance?"

Just Justin. . . It's Justin EC 101. . .

Anyway, yea I'm hoping the V6 will be ok. If I was going to wait for the R/T to drop in price I wouldn't buy a V6 at all. The depreciation would end up costing the difference. But I can not afford a car over 25k and I seriously doubt it will ever be priced that low. Also I can't afford the insurance on a V8, I'm only 22. I don't need a superfast car. My current car is 126hp and does 0-60 in about. . . 10 seconds, so anything would be an improvement. I might have to hope that new V6 finds its way into challengers before it gets killed off.

Justinec101, if I was in your shoes with low age and low money, I would buy the Challenger with the smallest engine and a manual transmission.

Then when I turned 25 and after saving my money for a few years I would get one of these bad boy crate engines:

https://dodgechallenger.com/forums/fb.asp?m=8033

This way when they quit making the Challenger in 3-4 years, you will still have one but it will have one bad engine in it.

Just a thought, but you will have to plan it financially to make it happen.

ha! man your almost convincing me of doing that Jerimiah. My girls dad builds hot-rods here in town. He's done dozens of 'em too. Old 20's and 30's chevy's bad freaking cars man.
He was telling me about one the other day that popped wheelies. Dang man maybe i should start thinking about that. I've still got two years though as im 23 but i want to see the convertible's first.
WOW DUDE YOU JUST PUT ME ON TO SOME NEW THINKING. Like i said before i love the car's looks but performance is skeptical right now. but i know how to fix it, or at least who could. Dang im going to be up all night on mopar. Just think a challenger with a CRATE 426 in it holy moly batman would take a dump in his pants. I think i would dump in my pants. Ha.ha peace...
THAT MIGHT BE BETTER THAN SUPERCHARGING THE 5.7 LIKE I WANT TO DO NOW. I GUESS I NEED TO TALK TO HIM. WHAT DO YOU FELLAS REALLY THINK?

As long as you have the time, energy, and finances, I say go for it.

I am not trying to disppoint you, but you might not see the convertible.

Best wishes on your planning.

As I have stated before... please wait until you drive the 2009 Challenger before you put down the power and try to guesstimate the gas milage. I'm not sure what Dodge has in store for the 2009s but for goodness sakes wait until you drive one. Its like comparing the Camaro and Challenger on paper... its all speculation. We don't know what the 2009s will be powered by or what the HP output will be. Their is much rumor and drops of fact. So lets all wait and see what Dodge has in store for the 2009 Challenger. VVT and bigger CID could be on the horizon or not but lets wait and test those before we complain and get all worked up.

I think that if the Challenger gets the new Phoenix engine (V-6) which has dual variable valve timing (VVT), you will get the performance because
VVT is kinda like getting a turbo. Once you hit that RPM range, it really kicks in.

Just wait and see. I think you will delightfully surprised when you test drive one.
This is what I was thinking. I am only 20, i'll be 21 in may. And a V6 option is looking better and better.

Very well said, and thanks for saying. Let 's just all wait.......patience is a virtue.

shoot you got me thinking i can sell the new Phoenix to pay for the rest of the parts and labor to drop a 402 Crate Hemi in it.
Yeah the new V-6 will be a very good engine. What do you think it could Fetch from a cut and run opperation.
At least a few grand right?? Prolly like 4? The money im thinking of saving in getting a V-6 should be about 15k right?? 40k for an SRT and prolly 32k for an R/T so a the Phoenix will be under 25k right?
That is if i went that route. Still could be a charged up R/T though.
What do you fellas think??
