Stricktly performance wise no the SRT isn't worth it... But waiting to find a new/used one is def. justified... Honestly they should of made an SRT with out leather and the stero system and the wheel option... then we'd see it under 35k NEW...
But reading this post I don't want to make anyone go agro im going to wait for one at the right price with just a few miles on it, still under factory warranty... I've seen a kabillion Charger SRT's at and around 25k... So my guess is the Challenger really isn't to far away... I love the 5.7 Hemi shoot I was one of the first dudes in my town with one, but that being said I want the 6.1 so soo bad... Maybe if I never had the 5.7 I would read this stuff and not care and go out and buy an R/T... But I know what I want but I also know what im willing to pay for... the 5.7 has seen an upgrade and the 6.1 hasn't that being said I truly believe there is actually more potential in the 6.1... I.E. 5.7 from 345hp to 390.. 6.1 from 425 to ??? 460??? Sounds sweet...
P.S. NO hard feelings to anyone... I hope you catch my drift...peace...

As far as "value" is concerned, only the person looking for something can determine the value - to them. "One man's garbage....." kinda philosophy. That will never change.
Neither will "driver ability", which is Kevin2323's argument. But as I said, that's a non-issue in this debate.
Approach this as the same person driving BOTH the R/T and the SRT8. If he sucks in one, he'll suck in both. Compare the two trim levels souly on thier merits, not influenced by the unknown and inconsistant factor - the driver.

Kris - not sure where you're getting 390HP on the R/T. The 09 facelift brought them to 370 (automatic) and 375 (manual) respectively. Still a VERY nice gain of 10% over the old '08 numbers (340 for the Charger R/T and 345 for the Charger Daytona). And yes, the SRT should be capable of similar increases with some simialr updates from the engineers.

Hey, it's all a matter of perspective. I have modified a few car in my time and typically I buy the mid level package and modify it to what I want. It usually takes more money to do that than just purchasing the higher end model. To turn an R/T into an SRT you'd spend nearly $5k on just the Brembo brakes right there. Now add the suspension, engine hop-ups, after-market interior pieces and before you know it you have spent more to build up your R/T than an SRT would have cost.

If you just want the 6.1, you'll spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $8k and up (I'm guessing, here) for the engine then the labor to install. Does the R/T have the same tranny, shafts and rear-end? I think my SRT was a bargain at $3k under MSRP. Especially since I didn't opt for the Nav and sound system upgrade which will be obsolete in a few months.

Has anyone put up any 1/4 mile times for the SRT? I read thru the 1/4 times that 10SecDodge ran in the R/T auto and 13.1 ET is very respectable. My old 73 s best was a 15.0 ET with a slightly worked 318 and stock everything else(converter, rear etc) with almost 200,000 miles on her. I think I could have got it into the 13s with the 4.10 posi I put in it but the car was stolen before I had a chance to run it. I will be taking my 6speed to the track as soon as possible (with a lttle break in) and see what numbers it will put up. I will do a few passes as well as a friend of mine who is also extremely experienced as 10SecDodge is. We'll surely see a difference in the numbers as I am not a veteran racer and fairly new to racing a stick.

bootcamp i agree with everything you said except the 390hp...the dynos show that it is close to 390hp than 375....which is why this debate comes up...but the srt8 is the full package plain and simple...the RT is amazing too. Hopefully dodge makes the 6.4l with vvt and mds and finally shows a big gap bewteen the RT and itself.

good debate guys

I think there is a 1000 watt option.....but i think 13 speakers was the max...so i think the 522 you have is the max...either way kicker isnt too great anymore....but it isnt terrible...for bass ect... but I like aftermarket setups better.

Kevin,

My wife has a TL type S with Bose 7X1 surround with DVD A & DTS CD's which is absolutely awesome. Even though the DVD A & DTS are hard to find they are out there and will offer a different perspective on music sound. It is true surround with a super quality sound. If ny challenger had that system it would be hard to get me out.

Im with Kevy on this one BootCamp that's why I said 390hp... And also I was speaking from the Ram side of the story as I own one...
Yeah 70's guy, some people diss bose, but I've always defended them I think they make a killer sound system... Last summer I test drove a few 'vettes and I couldn't believe how good the sound actually was... Bose is standard in them...
