but it certainly felt powerful! I can only imagine the feeling of that engine with MORE power in a lighter car! The R/T is going to rock

Yeah, Bud. MDS shuts down half of the cylinders when the engine is not at a percieved load (when cruising /maintaining a steady speed).
Our 5.7L with MDS in my wife's Charger is rated at 340 HP, but still manages to average 25.4 mpg on long trips. That's on 87 octane, not premium fuel - another advantage/cost savings.
If you "tune" the 5.7L with a chip, or add a supercharger, you'll be feeding it 91 octane.
