Ok for starters dont start out a sentence with Silly me! It doesnt leave any room for discussion on that point! lol!! Your right, the front end is designed to flex with pressures. This helps the car aerodynamically at higher speed. With no flex built in you get more of the force of the air pressure against the body and therefore adding resistence. When the body flexes it conforms to the pressure wave and reduces friction against the skin.
