Question about the CAI...Is there a noticeable difference (increase) in the sound of the car under normal throttle or just when you get on it when these are installed?

RE: Mods ordered for my 2008

Diablo Tuner
CAI
High Stall Converter
Sill Plates
Pedal Kit
Cover

I still need 2 tires w/rims,window tinting, and perhaps a new wife before this is said and done

RE: Mods ordered for my 2008

rrunner,

Most CAI kits are not noticeable under normal conditions. May hear more "throatiness" under WOT...but most like that:D

However, I have not had experience w/ a Charger CAI system which would obviously be closest comparison.

Urlosingbd 06-03-2008 06:46 AM

RE: Mods ordered for my 2008

I'm sure the best gains with a CAI is getting a tune to go with it. The new mustangs are avg about 22rwhp with a "mild street" tune and aftermarket CAI, like Steeda's CAI. This is on a 4.6... can't wait to see what it does on a 5.7/6.1 :)

As soon as the cars hit the road the aftermarket will follow.

RE: Mods ordered for my 2008

I have installed a Mopar CAI an both my Charger R/T and Durango 5.7 and hated them both. Both lost power and MPG's but I always felt like this was due to the MDS somehow as it seems to make the car hesitate like it was confused at times ?

Anybody else experience this ? I am hoping the Challenger will be different due to NO MDS but I'm still leary to put it on.

Looks like I'lll wait for someone else to try it out! Thanks for the info Neal!

WILD Jeff 06-04-2008 08:27 AM

RE: Mods ordered for my 2008

You need a tune with it to do it right. If you don't have a tune, even if it says it's not required... do it anyways.

Jeff
If i buy an aftermarket tuner(diablo) can I do it myself(no experience) or do I have it done and by who? If I do it myself any hints? Thanks Jim

WILD Jeff 06-05-2008 10:41 PM

RE: Mods ordered for my 2008

Yes you would have to pick up a Diablo. Then just find someone online that can make you a tune for your car, and then they will send it to you. From there you just load it from your PC to the Diablo, and then load it in your car :)

In the past week I've done research on what CAI gives the best performance increase. By far this K&N is the best. The test were done by an independent group (dyno sheets available) who also tested several other mods for the new 6.1 Hemi Challenger.

K&N 63-1114 Air Charger Air Intake Kit

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CO826S

Amazon.com has it real cheap.

RE: Mods ordered for my 2008

RRunner, I put a CAI (K&N) on my 2005 Magnum R/T along with a SuperChips tune. The combination was exactly what I was looking for performance wise. Regarding your question on sound, there is little difference in sound at idle or cruise, by WOT, or even 3/4 throttle generates a very nice throaty sound from under the hood...

Is the hose rubber or hard plastic?

Paladin06 06-11-2008 11:53 AM

RE: Mods ordered for my 2008

There is a short rubber hose that connects your TB to light weight aluminum CAI assy.

Thanks Paladin I already ordered the CIA from Mopar. Yeah the K&N is cheaper but I am telling myself the Mopar one looks better.

I wil probably find myself picking up the DiabloSport Predator Tuner after my next TDY.

So how is that retirement treating you? I am a former action guy turned into a fat lazy civy working for the Army now. Life is good now but there are times I sure do miss the good ol days!

Go to rpm outlet they have three different tuner/CAI combo's for sale at $499. One option is the diablo sport and the k&n CAI. Jim

The MOPAR kit definitely looks nicer. After hearing a few comments about the kit I've decided to wait on ordering until I hear my buddy's Challenger, he'll be my test mule. ;) I do have the cover and door sills...just no car.:(

Interesting question posed to the SRT engineers and their answer. Interesting.
If you have tuned the SRT for maximum performance, why are owners buying tuners like Predator and Diablo to gain more hp?

I would not spend the money as most of the aftermarket tuning packages we have evaluated may put spark in or take fuel out of the wrong places and create durability issues.

Paladin06 06-11-2008 05:37 PM

RE: Mods ordered for my 2008

I totally agree. I have been told the very same thing.

Good luck with Mopar CAI system. Maybe we can compare performance notes soon.

As far as the Army goes, since I retired I've never been so bored!! Nothing will ever replace Special Operations Attack Helicopter missions.

See how a new intake system on a Dodge Charger SRT8 stacks up on the dyno as DCH Motorsports walks you through this install. Check this out!!

You need new goals, challenges, things to strive for to keep you engaged and make your life exciting and meaningful.
Otherwise you get into a nasty rut.

The whole concept of retirement as a time when you stop striving for anything is wrong.
People always need goals to strive for no matter how old they get.
Humans are not happy unless we are always working towards goals of some kind, things that challenge us and light a fire of passion.

If you stop striving, then basically you're not living.

wow that was a really good gain. almost 40hp and 30ft/lbs of torque. Man that's great. Even more reason to buy an R/T... Just to catch an SRT and take 'em.;) See you rich boy's on the road:D:);)

When I say retired I mean retired from the US Army and I was only 38 years old when I completed my 20. I have a very challenging and exciting job but it will never replace the level of excitement I experienced while on active duty. Now the pay is a whole different story.:D

I also ordered my accessories today,
floor mats, cargo mat, car cover, pedal kit, CAI. Which the CAI was backordered also. T

I definitely want an Mopar CAI. I might look into that one from Maryland that has the intake for for charger srt plus one side ram air to connect to hood scoop. Said to have gained around 16 # of torque and sround 10 ponies I do believe.

I want the long tube headers once they become available so that baby can breath.

Search on eBay for the CAI using the part number. I canceled my order because it was backordered and purchased one from a Dodge dealer on eBay for the same price with shipping.
