Huh? Are you saying the R/T engine with the SE lower amount of options?
My '70 challenger is an R/T with the SE package. The SE is not a step down, it is a step up. It included leather seat inserts, smaller back window, overhead consolette, and some other doo dads. I am saying the R/T package with the extra class of the SE package. I just think it would be neat to have a 1970 R/T SE, and a 2007-2008 R/T SE sitting side by side in my garage. They would both be plum crazy, of course.

Okay now I know what your getting at. Back in the 70s the SE package was a luxury package. Now the SE package is the base level badge. Ironically the R/T has become the luxury trim on some models but still retains its performance heritage except they are making the SRT line take the place of the top of performance. I'm used to the current assoication that the SE has as the base model on current Dodge cars such as the Charger, Magnum, Caliber, ect.

The SE package was the special edition back then by offering special options. I wouldn't hold my breathe over it. The SE currently has an association with being the base model and people will think it is the base model because they have forgotten that the SE package used to be a special package.

SE for the 6, R/T for the 5.7, and SRT for the 6.1. It's a no brainer.
