the 5.7 hemi that was in my rumblebee was a thirsty son-of-a-gun! But as someone said it may be to do with the low gearing!
I would love to be able to afford the SRT but if i could i would maybe like to replace the front grill with an all black item and have a set of vintage red R/T badges on there for a bit of nostalgia

I think for everyday purposes including a bit of fun up at the local strip the R/T is quite a hard package to beat. Sure the 6.1 has more poke and is "the top line model" but the performance of the 5.7 is more than enough for me to cruise around and enjoy whilst still being a little bit more economical

Yep. The R/T looks better and better. Especially, when you consider some more relatively innocuous mods to glean a little more mean out it. My dilemma is this is the first and last time I'm going to do this, do I want to go off half cocked or get what I can get?

Rumblebee? So you had a Ram? A truck is going to get lower fuel economy than a car so that isn't surprising plus I believe that was before they started offering MDS in the Ram. The R/T package is going to be a very tempting offer, especially if they still offer the lifetime warranty. The real advantage for an SRT is for collector's sake. A 440 powered Challenger was practically as fast as a 426 Hemi version was, in everyday life for the average person a 440 would be a better choice, a 440 was cheaper than a 426, but the 426 Hemi versions are more a collectors item because they are more rare.

SRT for me and if they come out with a 6.5 that will be the one for me. Is it true they are going to stop making the viper?

Hey, yeah my daily job is in Marine sales. I run a dealership that specialises in powerboats and motoryachts and a lot of the brands i deal with are american companies. I got the Ram Rumblebee as a promotional vehicle and also as a part time workhorse to tow some of the bigger motorboats. Is MDS the system that switches displacement for economy? I believe you are correct, it certainly didnt have this but it certainly felt powerful! I can only imagine the feeling of that engine with MORE power in a lighter car! The R/T is going to rock

oh and i speak in past tense relating to the ram as one of my mechanics introduced it to a lamp post []

.....
Yeah, Bud. MDS shuts down half of the cylinders when the engine is not at a percieved load (when cruising /maintaining a steady speed).
Our 5.7L with MDS in my wife's Charger is rated at 340 HP, but still manages to average 25.4 mpg on long trips. That's on 87 octane, not premium fuel - another advantage/cost savings.

If you "tune" the 5.7L with a chip, or add a supercharger, you'll be feeding it 91 octane.
