Billionaire, yeah, if only my Hyundai were called the "Schlitz Drinkin' Wife Beater", I'm sure I'd appreciate it more.

I get your point, though. But the example is poor.

The Elantra is an economy car to give it the moniker "The Impale-O-Rator" or the "JackBooter" or "Eviscerator" would be foolish as it's not going to impale, jackboot or eviscerate anything. Though, it's performance and ride are quite adequate imho.

The Plymouth Breeze was kind of a sissy sounding name as well, but again, it's moot as it doesn't really speak to your point.

When you name a car, you are trying to convey in a word what that car is to be; think of it as a bucket of marketing target. Your statement would hold true if performance cars were called effeminate names, but for the most part they are not today.

I think if you're going to have a name with gravitas, you better have the substance behind it.

For instance the Maverick was a manly enough name, but was the vehicle much of a Maverick?

In short: Yeah. Used to smoke a lot of Dusters with a '71 Maverick Grabber. 302 cubic inches + lighter weight = speed.

You guys are too funny.

I had a friend that had a Maverick, and he could really beef up the performance but I remember it was not a very well designed car and I think it had bad reliability. My Challenger started up every morning for 5 years and never broke down.
