Dodge Challenger - it's not a remake, it's homage

RE: Dodge Challenger - it's not a remake, it's homage
Something to think about. The 300 and Charger which appeal to different audience while being practically the same sold around 115-120K last year. Whether or not we prefer coupes to sedans, the fact of the matter is sedan traditionally sell better than coupes. It would probably be a mistake to produce more than 100K especially considering that the only cars that Chrysler makes currently that managed to surpass that level was the LX sedans. Also remember that the Mustang sells around 150K units a year which you have to remember that currently Ford, has no other muscle cars in production and the Mustang has a 44 year momentum helping those numbers, so it will naturally sell more in the long run than the Challenger who is just coming back after a 34 year hiatus which had only been a five year production car before this and was basically just Dodge offering a platform mate to the established Cuda. It's a reasonable number also considering the price difference.

All great points. You cannot expect to see Challenger gain instant market traction when compared to a car that remained in production for decades and, despite a couple recent design flops, now produces a pretty good looking Pony. The flip side of this which I think hurts the Mustang is overproduction and an overabundance of models. Long term they hold no special value because you will see too many on the road. If Challenger holds a 30-50k unit production level over the next few years we should get enough to keep the car affordable and few enough to retain its long term appeal.
While I love the car I am dubious of 100k units any time soon as someone mentioned in an earlier post.
