that works out to just over 900/day with two shifts working...they could knock out all 6400 of our cars in less that 2 weeks if they wanted to...with then end of the '08 model year looming for the 300 and Charger, that might just happen... who knows???

I did this math a few posts ago they would have to only build challengers to do 900 a day remember that three car lines are being built best case would be 50% challenger,50% charger/300 thats 450 a day if they work 7 days a week that still would have ALL built by end of month .at 33% challenger also end of month bearly so all looks good ,,,,at only challengers being built that is only 8 days

Yeah seems like they'd want to just push all those challengers out as soon as possible. There can't be that much demand for chargers and 300s right now.

Well, since this is the 1st run and had framing problems I think they are just trying to prevent a major recall.

As far as demand goes, the Chargers are currently very popular with police and families who want a full size car with 4 doors. I see plenty of them right now.

I don't expect to see a lot of Challengers with baby seats in the back.

Unless of course the parents live in Colorado and their day care is San Francisco...but they better a little drive responsibly than Kowalski!

Though, as for production, do you think they're laying down baseline runs?

And I wonder if they are striving for a close to JIT production schedule where "We sold X Challenger last week, we produce X Challenger this week."?

I agree however with the mindset, produce solely Challenger's for a month in faith there will be huge demand for the '09's build a respectable allotment to meet the peak. Leave no sales on the table, for not producing enough.

Actually, I coming to believe that RWD full-sized cars are a segment that are successful in high fuel price markets. The fact of the matter is the Charger and 300 sold around 115-120K units each last year while the more fuel efficient Sebring and Avenger sold less than 100K each (I think it was close to 75K each). Back in the late 90s when gas was cheap, RWD V8 cars were dying and FWD V6 cars were taking off as was the large SUV market. Now that gas is insanely expensive, the demand for SUVs is dropping and some of the market is going to large RWD V8 cars instead. Use Cadillac as an example, the Escalade was what got Cadillac back into the minds of wealthy people, then they made the CTS and STS to capture the performance market. This is the way the market is going. The SUVs are the ones getting hit the hardest not the large cars.

The truth of the matter is I'm giving the Charger a serious look despite the high fuel prices because of reasons of safety, the AWD option, the looks (which I know not everyone understands), and the comfort of the car. My theory is if your going to buy a car, you might as well enjoy it.
