Report: Chrysler to build Dodge Challenger
DETROIT (Dow Jones/AP) - A couple of Detroit newspapers report Chrysler will produce a new Dodge Challenger muscle car.
Both the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press say the announcement will be made right before the Pepsi 400 NASCAR race in Daytona Beach, Florida, tomorrow.
The Challenger, goes back to Chrysler's 1970s muscle cars, will compete with the Ford Mustang. A muscle car is a mid-size car with a large engine suitable for the high acceleration needed for street racing.
The reports differed on when production on the Challenger will start. The News says it could be built in 2008, while the Free Press says it could be in showrooms as soon as next year.
