Mustang wins
Readers voting online overwhelmingly said the Ford Mustang is the best retro-style car done in recent years. The Chevy Camaro was second.
I will argue with your statement, "Dodge Challenger: So close to the original it's more like a fan letter than the proposal for a new car."
"The new Challenger looks far less like the 1970 Challenger than the new Mustang looks like the 1964 1/2 . And, not only is the shape of the new concept far more of a "caricature" of the original than a copy, the underpinnings are different enough, in design, technology and the hardware, as to make them incomparable. By comparison, the Mustang is far closer to its origins, and while updated nicely inside, its mechanicals are hardly state-of-the-art."
