DO NOT use regular.....I used regular because i didnt read the manual in my 5.7 hemi truck and ended up flushing the motor and replacing some parts because of all the nasty build up in my engine.....at 30k miles.....so please save yourself 400+ dollars and use mid grade or premium.

I did something odd. I read the owners manual to my car yesterday. The owners manual recomends 89 octane for the automatic and 91 for the 6 speed cars. The dealer never mentioned this and nothing is indicated in the fueling area as to what the required fuel (octane) should be. Frankly I have been running regular with no noticeable pinging. What are you six speed owners putting in your tank?
The manual has a slightly higher output hence the higher octane recommendation. You don't have to put premium in if you want to save the money; however, the output will be lower and remember with this, you are depending on electronics to work flawlessly for you. I tend not to trust electronics and use the recommended grade in my car especially after I can tell a difference between using regular and mid-grade in both the performance and operation of the engine.

Albeeno, in the St. Louis area, there are several stations that feature 93. I believe it depends a lot on which gas station and brand it is. Mobil always seemed to feature 93 down here. QT tends to only have 91. I cannot remember what Shell has. Phillips 66 has it sometimes. I can't remember what BP has. Gateway F/S has 93 octane. MFA Oil only has 91.

Kevin, I've never heard of that happening before, where were you getting your gas from?

I think it is odd that there is no indication (a decal) in the fueling area about octane requirement. I have owned many high performance cars in my 47 years and I am a little disapointed in the manufacturer but so is the US Congress. I still love the car. I have never owned anything new that gets this type of attention. The Challenger is really rare still in my area.

91 octane isn't readily available here in my area, 87, 89 and 93. Even though my Challenger is an auto, it's had premium from day one. I don't want the ECM remotely thinking it has to retard timing because of octane deficiency. Also, I think it's better in the long run for the engine, I get 16 city and 24 highway, car has 1700 miles on it.

Well if yours is an R/T, you really don't have to use premium on an automatic, but it is your car and your money. 93 will do for those models that need 91.
