Post Chevy Reports Prefers the SRT

Chevy Reports compared the Challenger SRT with the Camaro SS and guess what they liked?...the SRT!

Here is the article:

The summers of the 1970s were alive with muscle cars, but the muscle car era didn't last long due to the oil crisis of the 1970s. Now 40 years later two iconic muscle cars have returned the Dodge Challenger and the Chevy Camaro

In 1970 Dodge had one of the greatest muscle cars ever to prowl the streets, the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, that had the greatest V8 ever to be put in the engine bay of a car, the 426 HEMI. It had an astonishing 425 horsepower and 490 foot pounds of torque. There was no other car that could outrun it in a straight line. Its rival the 1969 Z28 Camaro was fast but could not keep up with the HEMI Challenger.

Now, 40 years later the Challenger has returned, but not much has changed for the Challenger. It still has its retro good looks, and is very similar in appearance to the original. The new Challenger still has the deeply recessed grill with its dual headlamps. The tall hipline leading to back of the Challenger makes it seem very muscular. The rear has the taillight that reaches from one side of the car to the other and lets not forgets the dual exhaust. The Challengers looks make it seem very aggressive and mean because it looks like its frowning or staring you down all the time. The Challenger wins in styling.

Under The Hood of the SRT8 Challenger is the 6.1L HEMI V8 that puts out 425 horsepower and 420 foot pounds of torque. The sound of the HEMI revving is awesome. You cant get enough of it. With the 6.1 HEMI under the hood performance from the Challenger is amazing. It hits 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 13.0sec at 109mph. The SRT8 Challenger is a big car but it handles very well. The SRT8 pulls 0.91gs on the skid pad. To bring the Challenger to a stop it uses bright red Brembro calipers, and the Challenger rides on 20inch alloy SRT rims. The Challenger SRT8 is available in one of two transmissions a 6 speed manual or a 5 speed automatic.

The Challenger also wins in the performance department because it weighs 200 pounds more but matches or beats the Camaro in races and numbers but the Camaro is the better handler. The interior of the Challenger is very nice. It features SRT Seats which are very comfortable. For the instrument panel it has four cluster bomb gauges. The interior is very well put together and not made of cheap plastic. The Challenger also wins the best interior because its roomy and you know you driving something special when you get in.

The Challenger SRT8s price starts at $41,000 and can approach $46,000 with options such as navigation, sunroof, and sound system.

Lets not take Chevy out of the equation though because they have some muscle of their own, the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS. The Camaro most resembles the 1969 Camaro but only a little bit of the 1969 Camaro cam be seen in the 2010, such as the grill and the side profile. The rear of the Camaro is very similar to the Corvette which some people may not like.

Under the hood of the Camaro is the 6.2L V8 that puts out 426 horsepower and 420 foot pounds of torque when mated to a six speed manual and 400 horsepower and 410 foot pounds of torque when mated to a five speed automatic. The Camaro's performance is good. It hits 60mph in 4.7 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 13.0 at 110mph. The Camaro is the better of the two when it comes to handling. The Camaro pulls 0.93gs on the skid pad. To bring the Camaro to a stop it also uses Brembro brakes and the Camaro rides on 20-inch rims also.

The interior of the Camaro is very similar to that of the 1969 Camaro. It features four gauges they are placed in front of the shifter on the console. The build quality is good but visibility can be very bad in some spots but that and space are the only drawbacks.

The Camaros starting price is $33,000 and can approach $38,000 with options like a sunroof, different rims, and Halo Ring Headlamps. The Camaro is the cheaper of the two.

Well, these two cars are both great cars, but there can only be one winner, and that's the Dodge Challenger SRT8. It takes first place because of its awesome looks, that would frighten anyone at a stop light, plus when you put your foot down your thrown back into your seat and the monster HEMI roars to life. Its just pure unrestricted tire-smoking fun that never gets old.
