WON'T START

WON'T START
I am the original owner of my '72 Challenger 340 with electronic ignition and automatic transmission. It has always started without too much difficulty until now. I cleaned the contacts inside the distributor cap last week and the engine started. I replaced the plugs and wires last summer. It wouldn't start yesterday, so I replaced the distributor cap and attempted to replace the rotor, but it won't come off. I assume it should just pull up and off, but it won't. I'm hesitant to pry it off. Engine still won't start. Any suggestions about removing the rotor and/or getting it started? Carb is getting gas so I'm guessing my problem is electrical. Thank you.

RE: WON'T START
A couple of things.
1. Did you try twisting then turning the distribuor cap to remove?
2. Are the plug wires in the right positions?
3. Did you try pulling one plug wire at a time, while turning the car over to make sure it's firing?
Good luck.

RE: WON'T START
There should be a white ceramic ballast of some sort it has been a while, but my 73 cuda 340 had one. It would prevent it from stating, usually located on the fender well I believe. I always kept a spare one in the glove box

RE: WON'T START
Thank you for the replies. I haven't had a chance to do anything with my car because our youngest is getting married this weekend and things have been hectic around here. I will try all suggestions next week and, hopefully, I'll get it fired up. My biggest concern is getting the rotor off so I can replace it with a new one. I was able to replace the distributor cap, but the rotor won't come off. Any suggestions? Thank you -- this forum is terrific!
