new/need a little help with my 71
Hey everybody. I'm needin a little help. I'd like to get my car on the road for the spring/summer, but don't have a bunch of money. I have a 71 with a 318 and it needs minor work. First, is it an "issue" to put a 4barrel on a 318, or should I stick to the 2barrel carb? Also, when I got the car it had a 340 cam-still does. I'm needing to replace my cam/lifters-would it be ok to stick with a 340 cam, or not recommended? Like I said, I don't have a bunch of money, and don't exactly live in a mechanic-rich area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
Also, recently discovered my seals around windshields are leaking! Tryed to get seal replaced, but everybody around here says they'll have to bust my windshields to take them out and replace the seals! Really?!!
Thanks again!!

JMG,
#1 can you do labor or do you need a mechanic?
#2 what makes you think you need a cam?
#3 you can get a edelbrock 600 for around $300
and a used LD340 or 318/360 performer for another $100 used
plus another $20 for gaskets. so you are looking at $400+ just for the parts
to do a 4 barrell.
#4 windshield where is it leaking? often when they replace the seal around the
windshield it can break but make sure it is the seal that is leaking.
if it is then you probably have rust in the frame that will need attention as the odds are
its not just the seal.
if its coming from under the dash then i would lean more towards wiper pivots/seals

WINDSHIELD WIPER
that are leaking. it is a common problem on old mopars.

actually from what i have found was that they finished sometime in May of 74
i have found 2 while searching the net that the owners claimed were made in
early May/74 and both were B5 blue, one guy on this site and thread
http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/in...?topic=72872.0
claims he had the second to last one made so you may want to sign on there
and see if he still has the vin number and or remembers the date on the fender tag.
unfortunately i cant remember the other site where i seen someone had posted their
may/74 build.
with your april 29th build date i assume you have your fender tag and have decoded it.
Body Type: J = Challenger
Price Class: H = High
Body Type: 23 = 2 Door Hardtop
Engine: G = 318 150HP(net) or 170HP(net) 1-2BBL 8 CYL
Year: 4 = 1974
Sequence Number: 397511 = 297511th Vehical Built
by the way what color is yours?

thanks wp23n, the colour was KG2 (green) now resprayed in orange.
Has a speedo in kilometres, has all the extras, was made for export.
I purchased it in Japan and brought it back to Melbourne, Australia.
Also found the build sheet under the back seat!
It does have the fender tag too.
thanks.
