I called a dealer about 6 months ago inquiring about a Challenger. The salesman said they would be going fast and would be selling for well over sticker. Today I get an email from the same salesman inviting me to view the Challenger that they have in the showroom. It's the same Challenger that a friend had mentioned he saw at that dealership a couple weeks ago when he was there. Not selling so fast, I presume.

Well being in business for 31 years I know people want money,so Dodge is probably the same way.Dealer needs to start paying bills.

$1200 is fair
thats if you get the car when they come out in Sept and Not March or april of 2009
I don't know about now, but I ordered my SRT pn May 16. I am #3 on my dealer's allocation list for August. I should get my car in October!

Champion is a high volume Dodge dealer- sold 150 SRTs in 2008.

Good luck,I am sure you will see your car before oct of 2008 thats as you
said that your dealers has a very big allotment......
To me,,,I rather wait and see it on a dealer lot.and then Buy one without waiting
I have hundreds of dodge dealers within 100 miles from me PA,NYC and NJ area.
To me I know if I order one I would be waiting 6 months or longer while the dealer is selling his
and laughing at me.

For those waiting on 2009 SRT-8's, goodluck!!! Unless you really have to have a 6 speed and want to wait until after the 1st of the year, you would be better off buying an 08. First, there is probably 50% or 3200 Challengers that are not sold or buyers have backed out so Dodge will not be building any SRT-8's until all 2008's are sold first. 2nd, with the way the economy is right now Dodge is building the SE's and the R/t's first for 2009. Lastly, roughly 4,000 SRT-8's will be built for 2009, maybe even less as the gas/economy worsen. With the rumored Z28 not making it to production, the srt-8 might be a 1 year wonder with Dodge.

So, assuming they only build 4,000 2009 SRT8s, wouldnt that make the 09s more of a limited edition than the 08s?

Not sure where you get your info from, but a car ordered is a car sold as far as LLC is concerned. If it sits on the lot, its due to dealer greed, not the economy. Therein, 09 production begins in ten days and the numbers made will reflect the number of orders. As far as what gets built first, again, its dependent on whats ordered. Why would you NOT build one trim level over another? If the order is placed, the car is sold as far as LLC is concerned. The restructuring LLC has undergone allows dealers to order what they can sell and arent being forced to inventory slow movers. No more gee, if you want a Charger R/T on your floorplan, you,ll have to sell 5 Caravans to get that car. I dont know how many SRTs Dodge will cap production at, but it makes no sense to make fewer of the 09s than the limited edition 08s - especially because of GM not making a Z28 Camaro. Wouldnt that be potential for more sales of the Challenger SRT? Isnt Ford still making Shelbys? Will they cut back production because GM axed the Z28? Sorry but no Z28 means more market for the SRT Challenger.

In the car collecting world, 1st year models are the most desirable. But in this case, buy it to drive it. I am not a gambling man, so I would rather have mine now than wait until later as you never know with the way Dodge and the economy are going these days. You cant put a price on driving pleasure.
