Default 2008 or 2009?

OK, I waited to order a 2009 for two reasons:
1. I REALLY wanted a manual Transmission.
2. I didnt think I had a chance in heck of getting an 08 (there was a raffle just for the right to order one through ENCS).

That being said, I just found out that ENCS now has 3 08 Challengers available, one of each color, all at MSRP. Apparently, a few of the people that won the raffle decided they didnt want them after all. So here is my dillema: Should I go for the Hemi Orange 08 now, or wait for the Torred 09 and the 6-Speed?

Now, before anyone starts rambling on about resale values and collectibility, this car is NOT going to be pampered. (well cared for yes, but no daily washing and buffing with diapers) It will be a daily driver for at least a year, or until I get back to the States (whichever comes last). At which point I will buy a little gas sipper, and the Challenger will be relegated to weekend duty.

So what should i do? Go for the instant gratification, or wait for the options I really want?

P.S. I'm still waiting to find out what the plaque numbers and options are.
P.P.S Thanks to MossOnaRoc for bringing this opportunity to my attention and throwing my life into turmoil once again.

Well the 09's start production very soon so if you want the manual tranny and can wait another 6 months go for the 09. Based on your profile, you are a young guy so odds are you will have years of fun with the car and might even save some money waiting a few months. BUT If you decide to get the 08, go for it, you are the only one who knows what you really want.

One thing to consider is that the 09s are $1500 more than the 08s. Plus the extra $1000 for the manual. Its doubtful youll get an 09 srt at below msrp so youre looking at an extra $2500 to wait and get a manual. And while I dont think the 08s will ever be worth millions of dollars, the limited nature of it could probably offset the $2500 price difference. . . if you ever plan on selling it. You might even be able to break even if you buy an 08 now, drive it for a year and then get a slight discount on an 09 later.

Actually, it would be about the same price either way. I negotiated the price of my 09 before official prices were released. The negotiated price included a $1000 model year uplift fee, and I am paying more some of the options (including the automatic gas guzzler tax) than I should. But, I did the math. Even with the uplift fee I am still saving $500 on the 09 due to the fact that the base price I am paying is from 08.

personally after september 19th (camaro release) i think you will be able to get challengers for a discount shortly there after...in 6 months the flood gates will be gushing forth on challengers, camaros and mustangs...at that time you will have a choice of what you desire and the dealers will know it

HUH?

You have , had, the 08 available at MSRP. You would be $1,000 or more higher for the 09. As far as compared to the 09 models, your math is correct. Please keep us all informed as to wether or not you actually found a dealer selling the SRT below MSRP and if you get it as soon as you think. If this really happens, you will probably make that dealer a lot of sales.

Good Luck,

Dave

Champion Dodge/Jeep in Barrington, IL is discounting all 2009 SRTs and R/Ts. I ordered a 2009 SRT for 50% the difference between MSRP and invoice- about a $1,200 discount. Any one can get the same deal. Call Don Conrad at 866-279-2908.
