RE: 2008 arrived at dealer today
I have to agree...I ordered a 2001 Corvette Z06, a resurection of the famed Z06 Corvette race cars from the early 60's, on the first day of ordering...I had a very low VIN and really thought I had something. The good folks at GM decided to bump up the HP from 385 to 405 for the 2002 model year, and I took a huge hit... there is still a large difference in the values of an '01 and an '02...
while we are on the subject, my sig shows I own a '96 Corvette Grand Sport. These cars were a limited run of 1000 with sequential VIN numbers form xxxx0001-xxxx1000. These cars have held their value really well, but there seems to be no added value in having a really low VIN #. As for the Challengers, aside from the history of 1,2 and 43, I would bet the same will be true...

I am unsure about snooter, but the only point I was trying to make was that if you're buying an '08 versus a different year with the SOLE purpose of resale value, it's probably a bad call.
Want the '08 for first edition cool factor? good stuff
Want the plaque and/or carbon fiber stripes? good stuff
Just want it RIGHT NOW? good stuff
etc.
But my point was that if all you want it for is resale -- you're probably purchasing the wrong model year as the '09 6-speeds will probably hold more value, especially the Hemi Oranges assuming that 09 is the last year hemi orange is available, making '09 the only year a 6-speed hemi orange was available.
I'm not here to argue what is faster/cooler/etc., just thinking its ridiculous to buy an '08 for resale value alone given the options for the '09.

I guess I have debated this in my own mind, and bottom line feel that it is anybody's guess at this point. While the '09 will have the manual, the '08 will be first model year. Either could come up as the one to have when reaching collector status some point down the road in the future. Only time will tell. Having spoken with actual collectors I am getting the message that first model years will definately have thier place in history. As for a 2001 Corvette, I would say the jury will still be out for years to come as to where they will settle in as far as collectibilty. All said I think all anyone can do is speculate where the collector market will go... kind of like the stock market as far as future vales. Just my opinion...
Bottom line, they will likely all have thier place...

666 would be really cool. I could paint a naked red devil girl on it with horns and tail.
