oh stop crying..... the thing does 0-60 in under 5 .......... it will easily smoke the gt.... and then you will say but kevin the srt-8 is suppose to compete with the shelby gt500.... your absolutely right. however the shelby cost 20k more than the challenger. Let me throw 20k in mods on my challenger and u wont even see the paint job on a shelby once i blow by it.
How do you figure a GT500 costs $20K more? I paid MSRP of $45K and Ford gave me 0% financing which is nearly $7K savings over the life of a 60 month/6% loan with 5K down. How much are 2008 Challengers going to cost, real-world? Maybe 10% get bought below $45K. GT500 is 200 lbs lighter and has 75 more HP. Ford Racing's intake/tune at $800 gives another 40 HP with a factory warranty. Spend $2500 with an aftermarket vendor's pulley, intake, exhaust, and tune and you'll get an easy 100+ HP. Don't get me wrong, I love the Challenger and aspire to own one some day but unless it's grossly underrated, the Challenger is perfectly slotted between the 300 HP GT and the 500 HP GT500. I think that's a good place to be. I'll be buying one for the looks, the nostalgia, and performance, but I expect the GT500 to be a much better overall performer. I understand the grumblings of the racers on here, but even stock, the car is going to be faster than 95% of the cars on the road. There's always going to be someone faster.

As I've said before. If you don't like the Challenger, your local Ford dealer has a lot and showroom full of Mustangs waiting for you. I myself prefer the Challenger even if it is a couple tenths slower or a couple hundred pounds heavier. I'm buying mine to drive not race daily which is what I suspect most people own cars for. You want a race car then buy the fastest thing you can find or build your own. The Challenger is a passenger car and I don't really care if it is the fastest one made-IT'S GORGEOUS!
Good points. I'm with you. I want the look, the big motor, the modern amenities along with the nostalgia. Not going to be racing it.

i didnt say people dont get it for msrp. it is really tough to find a dealer that will give you msrp for the gt500. you have to research and alot of people dont do that and end up paying 15-20k over sticker so the dealers keep it at that price. to my knowledge most gt 500s are going for 10-20k over sticker which sucks because it is the only mustang i like. But im a mopar fan at heart so i placed my order on a challenger and will be modding it to death to compete with the gt500.

I stopped at a Ford dealer to get my Barrett Jackson tickets a few weeks ago & they had two GT500's. They told me they were getting $75k for them & while they sat longer than they would like the price was not negotiable to any great degree. One of them was getting detailed for delivery while I was there.

I must say it was pretty damn nice but I still like Challenger better. Not saying you are full of crap but you would be the only guy I heard of that bought a GT500 anywhere close to MSRP.

Anybody happen to have a comparison of Challenger and GT500 acceleration, quarter mile times, 0-60, HP, weight or know where to see one? I really don't know too much about the competition...

LOL. Good luck with that brother.

GT500

5.4L Supercharged V8
500HP @ 6000 RPM
480Ft. lbs. torque @ 4500RPM
3920lbs. curb weight

It's slightly lighter and has 75HP more than the SRT8.

But - it's also another $15,000-25,000.

Honestly, as much as the GT500 costs - it's way overpriced. You can spend almost the same money and get a frickin Z06 Corvette which would smoke it.

Mustang 329 cid
Challenger 370 cid

Anybody making superchargers for the SRT8? That would level the playing field wouldn't you think??
