Been mulling around whether a 6.1 could be "readily" installed in an '09 R/T. I really like the options that the R/Ts provide, like the Titanium color (not available on SRT) and am frankly less worried about the improved handling and braking of the SRT. So, buy an R/T, pull & store the matching #'s 5.7, install a Mopar 6.1 and create what I really want. I believe the bellhousing and transmission (manual) are the same, I'd probably need to switch to an SRT computer too. Other than that, I believe mechanically they'll swap together.

Thoughts? Yes, I am crazy...

 

Wouldn't it be easier (and probably a LOT cheaper) just to get the SRT painted the color you want?

 

you can get an SE and build a 426 stroker motor for the same price as an srt8 and it will be alot faster...and safer

I think it's a sound Idea honestly... but getting a new R/T and doing that will put the price over the SRT... If you waited and found a used R/T in several months I think you could do it for less...
But Roswell makes the most sense out of this... Just paint the SRT... If your trying to get performance at a better price just stroke the 5.7 to a 392...
Like I said a second ago if your willing to wait, you know there will be some steals on the R/T's...

This topic really doesn't make too much sense ... the cost would top the srt by a ton and you kina need the suspension and brakes FOR THE BIGGER Motor. Kris is right ... wait for a used r.t or srt and paint it ! Much cheaper !!!

KHRIS AND RUDY I was talking about the safety of the engine....since it would be forged internals and you could boost it more than you would a stock engine....lol not the safety of the car...my bad about not being specific. Plus it would be NA....which is great

I think personally it would be cheaper and easier to repaint the car then to change out the motor. But, hey if you do, go with the 6.4, dont slack up at that point!

And if you have a good trust worthy mechanic, it really wouldn't be the end of the world to stroke it and put a new cam in... I guess someone could make the argument that factory paint is definatly superrior to an after-market job, so maybe you would run into the same problems trying to get a good paint job.... bubbles, runs, fading...etc... plus a really good paint job is going to cost about half the price of stroking it....so... Maybe im aruguing myself on this one but you'd end up with more performance for the money if you stroked it...
My decision won't be made up till April I get a third paycheck that month, and tax re-turn so sometime in May I think I'll buy... And Im secretly hoping to just find a used R/T for the deal... Or if theres an SRT I could consider it too but I don't want to get my hopes up the prices are just too inflated... But if I did get a used R/T I will definatly be talking to my girls pops about strokeing the puppy...
Ohh might as well mention i've seen two differnt dynos that are arguing the basline of the R/T is extremely close to 400hp one basline was on a 17% loss and estimated 402hp at the rwhp.... so im almost convinced that the true horsepower is that of the Rams 390hp...
