Same for me...not paying $50 for Sat. & no connections yet to score me a freebie...Go ahead & say it. Yes, I am cheap...[8D]

Just watch it from home and enjoy the show. That's my plan.

I posted earlier about the Ford dealers with free tickets. I got a couple of them but not good for Friday or Saturday.

lol how much do you guys think this challenger will go for ?

mopar2ya 01-14-2008 06:09 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

My guess would be about a cool quarter mill... $250k. Anyone else have a guess?

JJMPB 01-14-2008 06:26 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

is the money going to some sort of charity?

HeyItsWes 01-14-2008 06:36 AM

It benefits notMyKid.

Anyway, I estimate around $175k.

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

Are you guys referring to the "third" Challenger being auctioned off?

If so, I have to beg to differ with some of you. I honestly don't see it going nearly as high as the first 2 - mainly because much of the hoopla is already starting to die down, plus there have been camo (and supposed real) shots of the actual production vehicle, which is only a few weeks away from being introduced as opposed to a few months like when the first two were auctioned... I'm of the opinion that the "thrill" is largely gone.

BUT... having said that, I know that there are an awful lot of folks out there with alot more dollars than sense, so some of your stratospheric predictions COULD be right. I just don't see why anyone in their right mind would do it, even if it is for a good cause - but that's just me. :)

ACTUALLY< Barrett Jackson Will be for the #1 Challenger.

Only the #2 has been auctioned to date. Ebay auction open only to dealers, won by Dave Smith Motors of Kellog, ID. ($175,407.07)

#3 will be an Ebay auction open to the general public... probably announced sometime in February.

AnthonyAtAkins 01-14-2008 07:26 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

If it's for #1, and they have numbered dash plaques like they're talking about, I could see $250k+

Paladin06 01-14-2008 07:42 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

If you don't know about BJ, check them out. The #1 Shelby GT500 last year went for over $1M.. I expect this car to surpass that number. There is big money at BJ, real big money. The big guys there spend $1M to $5M on cars each year.

mopar2ya 01-14-2008 07:50 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

A cool million... hmmm... maybe I under estimate the pocketbooks and practicality of the super-rich?

HeyItsWes 01-14-2008 07:51 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

Paladin06 has a good point. It'll go even higher if Ron Pratte is bidding.

mopar2ya 01-14-2008 07:54 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

Ahh... the guy that likely suprised everbody with the $4.1 million Futurliner bus winning bid.

HeyItsWes 01-14-2008 08:05 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

And of course $5 mil on the 1966 Shelby Super Snake.

Yankee 01-14-2008 08:49 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

DOH! I forgot about that being the #1 Challenger being auctioned off at BJ. In that case... forget everything I said in my previous post - I say a cool $500K at least.

Rich Knapp 01-14-2008 09:35 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

man i whish i has the speed chanel to see the auction even if it is on tv would be cool. I wonder if Jay Leno will be there and bid on it i know he has a asom car collection.

DSkippy 01-14-2008 09:38 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

$250001..oh wait, this isn't the Price is Right (and I couldn't stand those people who did that). I don't know I would imagine the very first one would easily go over $300, be purchased by a Aftermarket Corporation who wanted to get some shameless plugging in "You know something like We are the Number 1 name in aftermarket parts for Challengers...so be sure to blah blah blah"....then they'd probably be really slick and write it off as a promotional expense, etc..... so I can imagine there'll be some pretty astronomically high bids with this in mind, and if these types of companies aren't bright enough to see this as an excellent promotional opp.

awsure 01-15-2008 07:32 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

Make for a good poll question. My guess is $400k

Mikesan 01-15-2008 10:22 AM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

My guess is closer to $200K. The Challenger just doesn't have the history of the Mustang or Corvette.

DSkippy 01-15-2008 12:32 PM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

For the very first one? That's kind of historic in its own right, no? If someone walks away with the first new challenger for a paltry 200G's, that someone got a honey of a deal.

awsure 01-15-2008 04:11 PM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

You could argue that point. History implies another fact...a lot of production which potentially dilutes the value. I think, for example, if you go back to last year's BJ and check one of the highest priced cars purchased was a Challenger.

kramtrah 01-15-2008 04:51 PM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

I think part of what may drive the auction higher as well is that all proceeds will go to charity, so BJ may push for stronger bidding before announcing to the lucky winner...sold, sold, sold! My take is it would go for around $200k for the car itself, but this weekend will be the tell all.

anthem SS 01-15-2008 05:17 PM

RE: Barrett Jackson Car Auction

I'm thinking myself it won't go past 250K, who knows. Maybe the guy in the Ferrari hat will by it!!
Who ever gets it will be putting it away i'm sure.

I went last night. Sorry...no production car but the Cuda concept was sitting right next to the Challenger concept along with the Batmobile across the way. A lot of cool stuff and a couple of bubble-boobed broads at the Challenger table.

You'll be sure to get plenty of pictures of the Challenger (wink, wink) for us right. Might have to employ the "hey look!... over there..." tactic with the wife, but hey, the "lot of cool stuff and a couple of bubble-boobed broads Challenger fans" will appreciate it. ;)

Really though, sounds like a fun cool time... have fun.

I think the best strategy is to tape the entire auction and then fast foward to the cars that interest you.
