A factory worker has posted on allpar that they were told this week that when they return, after the July shutdown, they will be building 3.5L Challengers.

I thought the original plan was to build the 2009 R/Ts first and then the SRTs in September. [sm=smiley25.gif]

This change is probably in response to the current gas crisis.

 

I REALLY hope this is correct. If it is, I'm putting in my order NOW.

 

As long as they don't push back the '09 SRT8 build any later than it already is, I don't care what else they build =P

In my extremely biased opinion, they should build the '09 SRT8s first to keep pushing out the SRT8s onto the roads to wreck some mustangs something fierce =)

 

About the ONLY place they've pushed the SRT8s out to is a parking lot in Ontario.

My Guess is that they will be building the '09 V6 first because of the economy, and to make the 2008 owners feel special as we will be the only SRT-8 Challengers on the road for at least 6 months. Then in Jan '09 they will start building the '09 srt-8.

 

I would most cetainly hope that this is not true. I mean if they push the 6.1 Challengers off until after January I think they will have a huge amount of grief to contend with from waiting customers. Yes it would make sense in a way to build the more gas efficent ones to attract customers who want that but in the same stroke they will push away potential 6.1 owners. With Camaro coming mid next year I seriously dont think Chrysler will want to cut it that close and potentially lose the customer base to GM.

I'm also sure they'll step up Challenger production because, realistically, they're probably not going to be selling that many Chargers/Chrysler 300s with gas prices shooting up. Although the V-6 versions' mileage on those cars isn't that bad, they both are viewed as "big cars" (read: "fuel hogs"). The V-6 Challenger, though, at a size much closer to that of the Mustang, likely will be regarded as a large small car or small medium-size car and therefore more "fuel efficient."
