I expect the V8 Camaro will be expensive. Probably $5-7K more than a Challenger.

Who cares. I'm not going to race. I think racing is stupid.
I think 600HP cars are too dangeous and useless.
You're liable to get killed easily.
I want to live.
I know of a very brilliant internet entrepreneur who died pretty young in a racing accident.
I don't want that to be me.

Call it what you will...on paper it looks like it will eat the challengers lunch. on the up side the challenger will have serious sales competition which = a chance to get a decent deal without being screwed by some of the more greedy dealers.

GM sells more cars and thats a fact... with that said, I will choose a Challenger. Look to the past and when you talk to those who lived the 70s. They will remember the mopars as the street terrors. When comparing a fast Ford or Chevy they will use the Hemi as a litmus test. I think that says it all. I like Camaros and Mustangs... glad the guys and gals have a car they like. Until they hit the street, who knows. But I'm banking on the Challenger and think the looks will appeal to the Muscle car crowd more favorably than the Camaro. And if you need proof as to what it can do... give me a year and look for me at the new 1/4 mile track at Charlotte

The thing is, back in the early 70's, the Hemi's were king, the equal cars from GM were LS6 Chevelles & Corvettes. Hence the reason why THESE cars fetch the most at auctions or private sales.
GM has their new motor ready to go in the new ZR-1 Corvettea and a slightly detuned version going in the new Cadillac CTS-V. The LS motors that GM is producing is made in so many different HP/TQ cofigurations tha even the lowest rated unit (285 HP) in a lighter vehicle, will equal or surpass the R/T. I agree, lets wait & see what acually hits the road in '09 & '10 but GM has the advantage, engine wise. Chrysler "may" just want to fasttrack getting a 4.7 ready as well as the 6.4 - and maybe the V-10.
And does the average idiot need 500-600HP, no - not with the way most of these people drive today but they make great veiwing on U-Tube crash sites and in the wrecking yards.
