Challenger Gas milage: Is it just me?
hey fellas...
It's fueleconomy.gov....
Well im getting just under 16mpg avg. in my 5.7 Hemi Ram... I'm just wondering if the 6.1 in a car would be comparable to my truck, if so I'm thinking I might definatly go with the bigger Hemi... I don't want to pay more for gas than I am already but If I can get the 6.1 and pay what Im paying for my 5.7 in the truck.... Well that could actually be a deal sealer for me... If not I might have to go with the SS... As the R/T won't stand up to my expectations of my next purchase... But this sounds like good news for my Challenger dreams... Suprising and good... very nice...

Ok, I have a 06 Grand Caravan SXT with a overhead console. That has the mileage trip odometer computer. I have been keeping track of my mpg's for business reasons. I find that the computer is off by about 2 mpg. I fill the tank full every time. Then I use a hand calculater to figure out my mileage for the previous tank. It shows that the computer is off by that amount. The formula I use is the Miles divided by Gals. = mpg. I also use a GPS a Garvin nuvi. I reset the data to zero every morning before I start out. One day last week it showed I went 372 miles, and the actual vehicle od. showed I only went 366 miles. Also I notice that speed on the GPS indicator said I was doing 70 mph. The vehicle od showed I was doing 68 mph.
Go figure!
My daughter tells me I still have brown hair in the back. Frankly I don't see it.

Ok, so we have the City and Highway gas mileages...
When I get mine and shes broken in (weather permitting), I'll let you know the "Autobahn" ratings...[sm=devilgrin.gif]
Edit: Unless Moss wants to chime in on the subject?

Actually, I wouldn't let gas mileage bother me on deciding between an R/T and an SRT. From what I'm reading here, the SRT guys are getting just as good as I am. Normal driving for my R/T is a lot of stop and go city driving where I average 12.5 MPG. I make a few out of town runs and I get about 17-19 MPG. Steady Interstate at 70 to 75 MPH and it gets 21.5 to 23 MPG. Very similar to the SRT's.
About the onboard computers, My 04 Ram 1500 with 5.7 hemi has always been optimistic about 1 MPG. But that's close enough to give you an idea how you are doing. The Challenger gets better gas mileage than the truck in all conditions but the truck does have 3.92 gearing as opposed to the cars 3.06.
I just figured out that the harder you push on right pedal...the smaller the number reads on the computer display....but the larger the number on that big dial in front of you.......maybe that has something to do with the mileage......need to do more "on the road" research...........
lol...BLK...
Yeah I hear you 05flhtse.. That almost surprises me though your only getting 12.5mpg's with the R/T, but then I remember you just bought the dang thing so your testing the limits still...
When I first got the HEMI I saw a bunch of 11's and 12'smpg... Now I watch the RPM's to see where I can find a happy medium when driving, I always know I have a lot left
For one week I tried to just see how good I could get the mileage and I got up to almost 16.5 with mostly city driving... but right now it reads 15.5 and I just drive it like it was any other car on the road, which I'm pleased with... It is giving me more confidence with the 6.1 though for sure Im so happy to see these numbers (kinda dissapointed in the 5.7's) I guess my hopes were just to high for the 5.7 this time around... I wanted like 18mpg's or 19 all the way around and the 390hp[&:], but you can't get everything you want I guess... I'm thinking now I'll just pick up an SRT used for a deal somewhere and go out and get it (there's tons of Charger SRT's everywhere now)... Im just hoping we have another model year to come out to make that possible...
