Yes, he said that they have basically three levels of pre production "mules". The first level is for the testing of the fittment of the panels or the components that make up the eventual production model. Then they actually make a batch of cars to test the production line itself. I would speculate that these are the ones to be crash tested. Then they lease several cars to lucky engineers and other Chrysler employees to "field" test these cars. It is this last group that can then be sold.
I believe that my 1970 convertible Challenger is one of these cars as it is coded as a Y22 Executive lease car. The sales code also begins with a Q on the fender tag and the build sheet. I believe that the Q could stand for Quality Lease car. I wish I knew for certain.

Bringing this back from the depths of which it fell. I didn't see anything in the search when it came to the crast testing, so here it is. I hope the link works as my wife couldn't get it to work, and I couldn't later, but I'm sure many of you can find your way to the page. It's a very painful sight, but it's actual video of the crash testing on the Challenger.
