Damn Dealers!

Damn Dealers!
I looked on Autotrader last night for a used Charger SRT8. The average price was around 38,000 the lowest price was 37,000 for a Charger with 15,000 miles on it. Then I went to Dodge and build an 2007 SRT8 Charger for 38,600 MSRP, new! Drop another 3 or 4 grand a few months back during employee pricing and you could get a new Charger for 34,600 MSRP. Now why would I pay some dumbass dealer 37,000 for a used Charger with 15,000 miles?
They are already jacking up the price on the Charger's, it is a guarantee they will soak you for all they can on the Challenger, sadly it is just how the world works!

They have to make their money too you know. If you were in their position, I guarantee you would do the same. If you wanted the SRT-8 for $34,600, you should have got it then. Also was the employee priced SRT-8 a '06 model or '07? They are going to charge what they can get. If the Challenger 6.1L model is in the mid to upper 30s, then quite frankly we will be lucky. The GT500 is in the mid $40,000 range.

Okay and what proof do you have of that? As far as I'm aware, a V6 model isn't even confirmed yet. Also the "Ask Dr. Z" contest showed that a 5.7L model Challenger was going to be about $30,000.

GT500 mid 40,000 range is MSRP. Go to a dealer and you can not touch one for less than 65,000. I hope Dodge does not play this game on the Challenger.

RE: Damn Dealers!
Dodge does not govern what the dealers charge for their cars. I have been in sales and marketing for over 15 years and I will share a phrase I hear from time to time that I think you should get used to. "Pitch 'em high - watch 'em buy!"
Salespeople are trained that if you offer a high price initially there is room to negotiate and back down a bit if you need to. You would be surprised how many times someone will simply buy a product on the first price and not even attempt to negotiate. Price of the Challenger will depend on the level of production and the demand. Dealers will try to get every dime they can...bet on it.

RE: Damn Dealers!
I remember back a few years ago when ford tried feebly to bring back the T-Bird.I just happened to be killing some time and stopped in at my local Ford dealer and saw one of those birds in the showroom. To the right of the sticker was another that said "market adjustment 15,000 dollars".That soured me right on the spot.I understand that Dodge does not/can not govern what the dealers charge for their cars but can they or can they not tell them that if they start getting complaints of dealer gouging that they just wont send them anymore Challengers?I can already see what these greedy dealers will charge for them and it will be outrageous.I am prepared to buy one but i simply will not cave in to such arrogance........hell if they want to charge Corvette prices then maybe i would just go down the street to Chevy.Dodge needs to nip this in the bud before they even start shipping them to the dealers.Enough is enough.

RE: Damn Dealers!
Good point spec, I agree with you 100%!
You can guarantee all you want to bro but you are wrong, I would not do this. I probably wouldn't last long in the car selling business or maybe I would because everyone would come to my dealership because I was FAIR.
I care more about relationships, friendships, feeling good about myself and being a good person than I do MONEY. So ripping some hard working American off on a new vehicle is not something that I would enjoy doing.
Example, If I owned a Ford dealership, I would have sold my GT500's at MSRP. Money is not everything. I can only think how happy those customers would have been and I can guarantee you that most of them would have come back to purchase additional vehicles from me. America needs more non greedy roll models right now.
