Well it's not the type that you close with a tab, and it's not a bulky metal contraption like the original, if that's what you mean by "fake".

I just wish it was lockable, that's my only real beef with it.

I got a locking gas cap the day I took delivery. No big deal really.

IMO, the R/T flipping gas cap looks pretty darn great to me.

At times I still find myself pushing the "tab" as on my original Chargers/Challengers when I open the cap. First thing I purchased for my new Challenger was a Mopar locking gas cap as I still remember people playing with the flip up cap on the originals. It may not be the same as the old ones, but as 73Challenger said...."The R/T [SRT] flipping gas cap looks pretty darn great to me".....

I love it. It's of many cues they took from the old school car. Fake??? WTH does that mean.

I was specifically referring to the outside cap itself being lockable with an inside release like my Camry has.

I think he means "fake" by the new fuel door not having a mechanical latch on the outside of the fuel cap like the 70s Challengers did. BLK 6050 touched on it a little bit in his post. You had to push a "latch" so the fuel door would release and open. The new style just flips open, i.e there is no latch to depress to open it.

My 2 cents is ....HEY it looks GREAT to me ...Ok my only gripe is that its made out of plastic and with some of the abuse it may see plastic won't hold up real well. But it does the job and you can get a locking cap for inside. I just try and pump all the gas myself which sometimes is hard to do here in NJ. Fat Cat[sm=gears.gif]
