Wallstreetman, I think you misunderstand the point I'm making. The 426 indeed did convert a lot of gasoline into power. However, it also released a lot of unburned hydrocarbons. The same is true of the 440 Mag and the 383 Mag. As I recall, all those engines were out of production by 1973 -- before the gas crisis but after the imposition of tighter emissions laws.

Booss....."Semi-Hemi" that is exactly what they used to call the Boss 429 because the design was so close to the Hemi.

Does anybody have any marketing dates from the time the Charger was introduced, until it was retroduced again, then finally started shipping????

I was thinking this may give us some clues as to when we hear from Chrysler again. With no more new it sure has been quiet.

Heretic! Heretic! He must be burned for such blasphemy![sm=badbadbad.gif] Just kidding!

I've been wondering if myself if Chrysler wouldn't make a model with this platform for themselves, since Chrysler is getting their own version of many of Dodge's vehicles like the Aspen from the Durango. I wouldn't be surprised if they did. If they did it would probably be a sign that Dodge is going to do the Challenger the way we want it (reasonably priced muscle car). The only thing that makes me question this possibility is that the Firepower is supposed to have the 6.1L. If they make a Chrysler equavilent of the Challenger, what will they do to diversify their engine line-up since we know for a fact that the LY's are going to have the 6.1L? Could it be possible they would change their minds on which platform will be used for the Firepower, or would the Firepower offer the V10?

As for the HEMI, the current HEMI has the dual-spark plugs per cylinder technology which was offered to help it with the emissions laws. I admit that I don't know much between manuals and autos on which produces more emissions. The Viper doesn't have an automatic option, when many cars in its class do have automatic options.

I have just about every article written on the new challenger. Every article says that is is very unlikely that there will be a manual b/c of the SRT automatic. check out it your self at Car and Driver or Road and Track

also, they have developed a 6 speed manual for the concept, and they dont develop things for nothing..so it will appear somewhere. we know that they have the 6.4L, 505hp hemi, but why? I think that if dodge builds the challenger and makes it an every-mans muscle car, that we could likely see the firepower as the next chrysler super car, built on an LY platform, packed with the 6.4L hemi, and sporting a price tag similar to that of the viper...if the 6.4 makes it into a production model, its going to be very expensive, as i dont forsee dodge making the same mistake as GM, and offering a car with the same horsepower as the viper, for much less money...the firepower is "cutting edge" enough that they could pack it with 505hp, and charge big money for it...it wouldnt sell well, but it would likely sell as well as the viper.
