At the risk of seeming ignorant, is there something special about shifters in auto-sticks? If not, then how would the shape of the shifter impact shifting?
Shift views.....oh, wait that's a Nissan ad slogan

Kinda what I'm trying to figure out. If it's just a shifter change it shouldn't make any difference. However, the mockup of the shifter (the computer rendered one shown on autoblog) shows a different setup entirely. It shows being able to select from all 4 gears and no drive. I don't see how that would be possible though. My guess is that it's just that, a mockup, and doesn't really mean anything and I was looking to closely when I should have just noticed the shiny T shifter.

May need some form of button to shift out of park as well as to reverse from drive gears/neutral.

The T-Shifter has a button on one end of the handle in case anyone didn't notice.
I bet 4 = D on that shifter.
At least it looks cooler than the stock automatic shifter.
I'd like one with an 8-ball on it, or a clear ball with a skull inside, or something cool & hotrod-ish like that.
Then I can shift with my pinky lifted up just like Ed Roth's monster hot rod drawings.

yeah, the 76 granada had the same layout. T shifter button on the side. i agree w/ the aesthetics I was just curious about any other functional aspects pertaining to autostck vs traditional auto.
Always liked the 8 ball shifters.

I noticed the apparent button too. The regular shifters don't have buttons so I'm worried that there will be more to it than just swapping it out.
