In today's financial news, there appears a story that Cerberus and GM are talking about a deal that would give Cerberus the remaining owenrship in GMAC in exchange for Chrysler. READ ON:

"......The Wall Street Journal, citing people it described as familiar with the discussions, reported that Cerberus, a private equity firm that also owns 51 percent of GMAC Financial Services, proposed trading Chrysler's automotive operations to GM in exchange for GM's remaining 49 percent stake in GMAC.

The New York Times, also citing people familiar with the talks, reported that the automakers were discussing a merger.

The negotiations between 100-year-old GM and 83-year-old Chrysler have began more than a month ago. The Times said its sources pegged the chances of a merger being completed at 50-50....."

Can you imagine if this ever happened?

How about a Camaro with HEMI? How about a Challenger running with a Corvette engine?

 

i saw the same thing last night on the NBC Evening News with Brian Willams. they said the same thing you just said.

if these too merge....does gm stock stay as gm stock....or does gm stock go to 0 and then a new stock emerges? I am confused.

 

I know that there is a anouncement abou the Camaro monday.

If this happens I doubt they will compete against themselves.

Will my car become a collectors item 5 months after I got it ? Or will the camaro never come out ?

Well concider the fact that GM has ALWAYS competed against itself....Chevy, Pontiac, Buick...... and Chrysler has also, Dodge, Plymouth... So if there was a merger it would just give GM 2 more brands to use as product development platforms and would give Chrysler a Small car platform to use for more fuel efficient vehicles.

 

If GM has controlling percentage it will stay as GM stock. If GM declares bankruptcy (which could happen) and reorganizes, the current stock is worthless. However I am really thinking about purchasing about a 1000 dollars worth of shares next week since it is so low right now. I believe they will survive and the China market is really doing great regarding GM cars. Plus the new volt will be coming out so I guess I will be throwing the dice and hope for 7 or 11. I could very easily roll a two, three or twelve and crap out on this so I am not advocating for anyone else to follow my logic. I think this is a great time to invest in individual companies that the shares have gone down but are good solid companies such as boeing, etc.

Remember you do not realize a loss unless you sell.
