Out of State Purchases
I have an order with an out of state dealership - for many of the reasons discussed in numerous other threads.
I was wondering how many others have ordered / purchased their 09s or 08s from an out of state dealership, and how smoothly the paperwork went. Im concerned about sales tax liabilities between the resident and selling states.
In particular, Im looking for information for New York residents buying from out of state dealers.
Any information / experiences that youd like to share would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance!

RE: Out of State Purchases
Guess Im confused. Did he charge you Ohio sales tax AND California sales tax - leaving you to file for a refund on the Ohio tax?
And the $400.00 is the customary fees for registering / titling a car in California, which you have to do yourself?

I bought at HOOD RIVER DODGE in OREGON but I live in Wa. I was treated like royalty. They took care of everything. My plates will be at local license agent. They charged tax rate of where I registered car.Smooth transaction. It was like driving 200 miles to save 20 grand. LOTTO BABY!!

We bought ours in Boston MA and we paid the taxes in VA when we registered the car. It was very easy. Check with NY DMV to see what documents you need and good luck

Thats what Ive done and of course NY cant make anything easy - with reciprocal agreements and the like. I have 4 forms downloaded and printed already - and thats just for the sales tax.

All correct statements for sure, we ship cars to every state in the country and used cars over seas. The deals will always be smoother than local if you have a skilled dealership that is happy to take care of you. The taxes are charged only in the state of registration and when we modify cars before shipping at least out of state the new owners don't have to pay any sales tax on the parts or labor for what we do!

I live in WA and am going through Dave Smith in ID. To this point it has been miles better than the local dealerships, and due to the fact that they sell a lot of trucks to people in WA I feel confident that they will be able to get me through the purchace rather easily.

I live in Illinois and bought one out of St Louis. Illinois dealers still trying to gouge even though they're sitting. Marty Cancilla Dodge was great and asked me ahead of time if I wanted the front plate bracket on. My baby gets delivered tomorrow!!!!
