JJMPB - I agree with you. The rear end is just awful both from the rear profile and side profile. The rear end lights just look very cheap and like they are from a 240sx or something The rear bumper jutting out looks terrible from the side. The car has not lived up to the concept however, even just standing all on its own and not doing a comparo it does not look very good. Something like the G35 looks way better. Put it this way, there are ways to make a car look good regardless of the crash standards etc. There are many designs that look much better than this car and all of the manufacturers had the same standards that had to be met. The GT500, G35 are two examples that look far better than this car (in my opinion). I may sound like a guy that does not like the Challenger to begin with but I was actually very high on this car and have had a deposit down for over a year but I am not going to buy it based on the production version. Very disappointed.
Well, you have to admit that NEITHER the concept car nor the production car looks as good as the 1970 and '71 models because the new cars (particularly the front end, when viewed from the side) look a LOT bulkier than the original graceful lines. Personally, I never liked the '72-'74 models because of the changes that were made in the front end and in the taillights. However, if I now came across a '72-'74 that was in good shape and had a reasonable price, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat. Which is exactly what I'm going to do with an '09.

If you don't like the Challenger and aren't interested in buying one, then why are you posting on this site?

If you ask me its the closest thing to a muscle car we will ever get because once this small era is gone its to the 50mpg dink cars from some chinese import! We will probibly look back at tis car as we do to the 60s & 70s muscle cars! The challenger is the one and only!

Another one drops out of line for ownership making everyone else's chances better.
I think we can all tolerate some dissent can't we? This forum is here to promote & share what we love about this car but there is room for people to point out what they perceive as flaws as long as they are not getting rude about it.
I personally think the concept was done so well there is a natural letdown when folks see what things had to get altered.

I am not going to argue with you about the G35. As far as sports cars go, for the price, it IS a great looking car. Yes, it is made by a japanese car manufacturer - so what. Would I buy one? Probably not, but for other reasons, mostly related to the fact it only has two seats and I already have a two seater. As far as why do I post here, becuase I have followed the Challenger for more than a year, just like lots of people on this board, I have as much right to comment on the car whether it is positive or negative. Just becuase I am not part of the LOVE IN and drinking the cool-aid does not mean I can not express my opinion. I am simply saying this: The car, in my opinion, is a disappointment from a design perspective period. When compared to the concept a BIG disappointment. I thought the concept looked WAY better than the GT500 and now I think the production version does not look as good as the GT500. Yes, you are right, one less person in line so you can get yours sooner and at MSRP. I hope that most of you are still happy with the production version and hope you get one at MSRP. I wish I could say the same.

It has been reported on allpar that the R/T will not have hood striping and only 18" wheels (20" wheels wil be an option). If you like the striping, you could always order it from parts.

Production version looks awesome. Price consideration will probably force me to the R/T. Better to have a 5.7 in the driveway than a 6.1 in repo
