From what i've gathered, the 2010 platform change will also accomadate a convertible whereas this one the srt8 sits does not.

Unfortunately, all this speculation about the 2010 Challenger likely is moot if the report is true that a V-6 option isn't going to be offered. Now I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth buying an '09. Since I have the bad habit of keeping -- and driving -- cars for years and years, how bad would the parts situation eventually be if the Challenger winds up existing only in a bit of '08 and '09?

Wow. That's the first time I've heard the "no V6" rumor. With all due respect, RoswellGrey, I don't buy it.

I did see this quote at autoblog:

Kicking Tires also reports that 2009 Challengers will be available with a 380-hp, 5.7L HEMI V8 sporting cylinder deactivation technology, which we may see at the New York Auto Show in late March. A base model with a V6, however, seems unlikely to appear from what we hear.

... But I take that to mean "unlikely to appear at the NY Auto Show."

I agree with you that, while WE may not want to purchase a V6, the Challenger needs that option to generate enough sales to guarantee longevity.

ResumeSpeed will be here soon to straighten us out!

Damn, White Heat. You're probably reading that correctly. I read it as "unlikely to appear AT ALL." Probably an overreaction on my part.

Yeah, this is certainly going to be a cash cow, and the only way they can do that is through volume (they'll chase all enthusiasts away) and it will be short lived.

Viva la 6!

The Charger line has two V6s- a 2.7 and a 3.5L. This is what sustains the model and increases profits. I do not see how Dodge could limit the 2009 Challenger to only two Hemi engines. In light of gas prices, environmental concerns, and competition from Ford and GM, Dodge must build the V6 for the masses. Remember, we hard core enthusiasts at dodgechallenger.com are the minority. We have been following the Challenger since the 2006 concept. The general public is not even aware of the car.

I dont know, I am expecting the phoenix engine to debut around that time.
You mean that you wouldn't want to see a 2.7L Challenger? [8D]

Relax, probably only the 3.5L will be offered until the new Phoenix engines are available.
